Liverpool and Newcastle United meet at Wembley on Sunday (ITV1, 16:30) to contest the Carabao Cup final. Liverpool are flying in the Premier League and no one looks to be able to stop them from claiming their second Premier League title. Boss Arne Slot could be in for a strong first season in charge of the Reds if he can complete a double with the League Cup.

Newcastle will have ideas of their own, though, as they return to this final two years after they were beaten by Manchester United. Below you will find my Liverpool vs Newcastle bet builder tips for Sunday's showpiece, which pays out at an attractive 12/1.

Liverpool vs Newcastle Odds

Liverpool to win

I kick us off with a result. In many cases I will avoid a result for a bet builder, especially for a cup final. I'm usually a sucker for the cliche, 'form goes out the window.'

However, on this occasion I am confident in Liverpool getting the job done in regulation time under the arch. Slot's men have been the most consistent force in the Premier League this season and it looks like the FA Cup was forsaken this year because of the Reds being much further along in the Carabao Cup.

Liverpool's Champions League dream came to an end against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday at Anfield. They have lost the opportunity to secure a treble in Slot's first campaign but they will be fired up to complete the double, starting with the League Cup on Sunday.

They've won four of their last five matches coming into this, which included a 2-0 win over their opponents at Anfield in the Premier League on February 26. The Magpies will be out for revenge, as well as making amends for their defeat in the final here two years ago.

Eddie Howe's side have blown hot and cold in the games building up to this clash, and that unpredictability should play into Liverpool's hands.

Both teams to score

I fancy Liverpool to win but by no means am I expecting it to be easy. BTTS looks attractive in this match not just because it's a pressure-fuelled cup final but due to the fact that the Reds are going to have an unconventional back line on offer.

Football Odds

  • Liverpool have won four games from five in all competitions
  • BTTS was a successful bet when the two teams met at St James' Park in December

Liverpool will be without a recognised right-back for this clash as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley are all ruled out through injury. It appears like Jarell Quansah will be tasked with manning the right side of the defence, which could play into Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes' hands.

Let's also not forget they have the talented Alexander Isak up front, who has 22 goals in all competitions, including two in the Carabao Cup. But all eyes will be on Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, who has hit 10 more than the Swede across all comps.

We've already had an encounter between the two teams in which they've scored and there were six goals in that clash as they drew 3-3.

Mohamed Salah anytime goalscorer

Salah is having an incredible season for Liverpool and he is on course to set a record for goals and assists in the Premier League this year and he already has 27 goals and 17 assists to his name.

The Egyptian has been one of the best signings in Liverpool's history and while there remains uncertainty that his future lies at Anfield beyond this campaign when his contract expires, he could be on for a memorable final year.

He bagged a brace when the two teams met on Tyneside back in December and now has 10 goals in 17 appearances against the Magpies. I fancy that we will see this record improve on Sunday.

Alexis Mac Allister 1+ fouls

Liverpool's combative midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has been a popular selection among the Betfred Insights staff for yellow cards this season. Sometimes it's been fruitful, others we have been left frustrated.

I'm going to dial it down and back him to commit at least one foul at Wembley. The Argentine has been a serial offender this campaign and has been penalised 52 times. Only five players in the Premier League have committed more fouls than him.

In 28 outings, he is averaging 2.2 fouls per game, so I think he offers decent value to get into trouble on Sunday.

  • Mohamed Salah has 11 goals in his last 13 appearances in all competitions
  • Alexis Mac Allister is averaging 2.2 fouls per game in the Premier League

Joelinton to receive a card

Mac Allister hasn't got my attention for booking on this occasion, but Newcastle's Joelinton does. The Brazilian is just as feisty than his Liverpool counterpart, and he himself has committed 51 fouls in the Premier League this term.

Across 31 appearances in all competitions in 2024/25, the Magpies midfielder has collected 11 yellow cards. One of them came in this competition in the semi-final first leg against Arsenal.

His most recent appearance against West Ham United saw him escape a booking despite committing three fouls. In a game with such high stakes, he's bound to lose his cool at some point, especially if his team are behind.
