Huddersfield vs Leicester Prediction: Goals expected in Yorkshire

Huddersfield Town will look to cause a minor upset as they host Leicester City in the first round of the Carabao Cup (19:45, Sky Sports+). The Terriers have made a perfect start to life in League 1 under Lee Grant while Leicester came from behind to beat Sheffield Wednesday in their Championship opener.

Team News
Huddersfield should give a start to Dion Charles up top, with Alfie May likely to be afforded a rest. Grant could hand Lynden Gooch, Cameron Ashia and Josh Feeney starts, having been on the bench for the last league match and I’d expect the Town manager to make big changes for this one.
Promotion is the sole aim this season, so expect experienced goalkeeper Lee Nicholls to start in goal, while 18-year-old Cameron Ashia could also be given a chance to shine.
Huddersfield vs Leicester Stats
- Huddersfield have won two from two in League 1
- Leicester also won their Championship opener v Sheff Wed
For Leicester, we can expect Marti Cifuentes to also rotate, with promotion the only barometer of success and failure this term. Patson Daka should come in to lead the line while we can also expect 16-year-old Jeremy Monga to start after he came off the bench against Sheffield Wednesday.
Asmir Begovic should get his first start since his summer move from Everton while Hamza Choudhury and Ben Nelson should also come in to provide some defensive solidity.
Huddersfield vs Leicester Odds
Huddersfield are priced at 11/4 to win this one on home soil while Leicester are the 19/20 favourites. That gives the Foxes an implied win probability of 51.3%, while a draw after 90 minutes is 13/5.
Huddersfield are 11/8 to win the tie, while over 2.5 goals in 90 minutes is 4/6. BTTS is 8/13. Daka is the favourite to score first at 11/2.
BTTS @ 8/13
Despite rotation on both sides, I am expecting goals in this tie. Huddersfield have looked strong going forward and their fringe players will be striving to impress the new manager. I like Charles a lot and the former Bolton front man has scored a lot of goals at League 1 level, so there shouldn’t be too much of a drop off from their attack.
Meanwhile, Leicester looked shaky at times in their 2-1 win over Sheff Wed, despite facing off against a team that didn't really have a pre-season and barely had a senior XI to put out. I think their changes could weaken them at the back, but their attack should have enough to find the net with the quality they possess.

Bet Builder - Patson Daka and Dion Charles to score @ 11/2
Let’s back two top attackers to find the net, having both been named on the bench at the weekend. Let’s start with Charles, who I have already mentioned in this piece. He got 16 and 14 goals in back-to-back League 1 campaigns and last season he got seven for Bolton in the first half of the season before making the move to the Terriers.
It hasn’t quite worked out for him so far, but he will get minutes in this one and can find the net. Meanwhile, Jordan Ayew was given a start by Cifuentes, but I expect Daka to come in for this one and given he scored seven goals in 20 Championship games the last time he was in the second tier, he should be able to find the net against a League 1 side.
