Crystal Palace vs Millwall Prediction: Can Lions win London derby?

Crystal Palace enjoyed major cup success last season as they won the FA Cup, their first piece of major silverware in their history. They will hope to have another cup run this season, and they begin their Carabao Cup campaign with a home tie against Millwall (20:00, Sky Sports+).

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is likely to use this game to rotate his squad, and haNd minutes to some fringe players. Justin Devenny, Christantus Uche, Nathaniel Clyne and former Millwall man Romain Esse should all start in a new-look Palace side.
They’ve drawn three and won one in the Premier League so far and will hope to keep hold of that unbeaten start, while Palace fans will be hoping to get a glimpse of the likes of Jaydee Canvot, Borna Sosa and Kaden Rodney. I’m expecting major changes from Palace for this one, with Walter Daniel Benítez set to start in goal.
Millwall made major changes for their second round win over Coventry City, and I’d expect Alex Neil to revert to a similar line-up here after drawing a tough London derby with Charlton on Saturday. Max Crocombe should start in goal, while the likes of Thierno Ballo, Wes Harding and Raees Bangura-Williams should all be put into the starting XI.
Caleb Taylor should make his debut for his new club in defence after joining from West Brom, while Zak Sturge could feature at left-back. It will be interesting to see whether Mihailo Ivanovic, and Josh Coburn continue their partnership up top.
Crystal Palace vs Millwall Predicted Line-ups
Crystal Palace (3-4-2-1) - Benitez; Clyne, Lacroix, Canvot; Munoz, Rodney, Devenny, Sosa; Esse, Kamada; Uche
Millwall (4-4-2) - Crocombe: Harding, Taylor, Cooper, Sturge; Ballo, Kelly, Cundle, Emakhu; Bangura-Williams, Coburn
Crystal Palace vs Millwall Odds
Crystal Palace are the 4/9 favourites to win this game, giving them an implied win probability of 69%. An away win in 90 minutes is 13/2, while a draw is 7/2, with Millwall 3/1 to qualify.
Crystal Palace vs Millwall Stats
- Crystal Palace have won one and drawn three in the Premier League
- Millwall are yet to lose an away game (W3 D1)
- Millwall have won two away games 1-0 already this season
Millwall to qualify @ 3/1
I can completely understand why Palace are the favourites here under Glasner, and I can also see them securing a comfortable home win. But there’s no fun and no value in backing that to be the case, while I think Millwall offer tremendous value given their away performances so far this term.
Neil has set his team up to be tough to beat, and they’ve already secured away wins at Newport County, Sheffield United and Norwich City. They rescued a draw late on at Charlton last time out to maintain their unbeaten away record and will fancy their chances of progressing here. I can’t back them to win in 90 minutes, but they are a sturdy outfit with reasonable squad depth that should be able to seriously test Palace.

Price Boost - Millwall to win 1-0 @ 18/1
This Price Boost from Betfred is too good to ignore. Millwall have won three of their four away games in all competitions this season, two of them by a 1-0 scoreline. Neil knows the importance of defensive solidity, and they have conceded an xG of less than one in their last two league games - despite only picking up one point during that time.
With rotation expected, I think a low-scoring affair is on the cards, and if Millwall can nick the first goal, Palace could be in for a tough night. This is a huge price that is worth considering for a small stake.
