Team News
Burnley boss Scott Parker is having to cope without the services of Connor Roberts (knock), Jordan Beyer and Zeki Amdouni (both knee) due to ongoing injury issues, but Parker has revealed that Beyer is making progress and he may have an outside shot of making Tuesday's squad.
Jacob Bruun Larsen is a doubt due to a knock he picked up in the recent international break, and he was absent in the weekend draw with Nottingham Forest.
Parker may consider making some alterations to the team here with a trip to Manchester City up next for them in the Premier League. We could see the likes of Bashir Humphreys, Zian Flemming, Armando Broja and Marcus Edwards - who all started in the previous round - recalled for this clash.
Max Weiss is expected to feature between the sticks, like he did in the second round.
Cardiff boss Brian Barry-Murphy could deploy Calum Chambers and Dylan Lawlor ahead of goalkeeper Matt Turner as the centre-back pairing.
Yousef Salech is likely to keep his place up front with three goal involvements in eight League 1 matches this season, and he may be supported in the final third by Callum Robinson.
Influential midfielder Rubin Colwill is also expected to start at Turf Moor, with the Welshman having four goal involvements in eight fixtures in the third tier in 2025/26.
The Bluebirds have no fresh injury concerns for Tuesday's game.
Burnley vs Cardiff Predicted Line-ups
- Burnley - Weiss; Laurent, Ekdal, Humphreys; Walker, Mejbri, Luis, Hartman; Edwards, Broja, Anthony
- Cardiff - Turner; Ng, Lawlor, Chambers, Bagan; Colwill, Mafico; Nyakuhwa, Robinson, Davies; Salech
Burnley have won their last three meetings with Cardiff and they are the 3/5 (implied probability of 62.5%) favourites to win this tie in regulation time.
The Clarets drew their last match on home soil and the stalemate is marketed at 3/1.
Cardiff are 5/1 to pull off an upset but they have won three of their past four competitive away games.
Burnley attacker Jaidon Anthony notched his third Premier League goal of the season at the weekend, and he is 13/8 to strike anytime on Tuesday.
Burnley vs Cardiff Stats
- BTTS has struck in three of Burnley's last four competitive games
- Over 2.5 goals has been a winning bet in Cardiff's previous two Carabao Cup matches
Both teams to score @ 1/1
Cardiff are going well in League 1 as they sit fourth, three points off the top of the table. They will embrace this test against Premier League opposition, particularly as the pressure won't be on them.
Burnley are the ones who will be feeling the pressure as they are at home against a side from two divisions below. Parker did not refrain from making wholesale changes in the last round against Championship side Derby County, so I expect we will see something similar this time around.
Cardiff are likely to go with a strong XI given the level of their opponents, and I think this could lead to an interesting contest - one that comes with goals at both ends.
BTTS has been a successful bet in three of the hosts' previous four competitive outings, while this has also been the case in two of Cardiff's last three fixtures.

Over 2.5 goals @ 1/1
For the same price, over 2.5 goals looks enticing. I think Burnley will end up going through and if Parker has some of his first-team regulars to call on in the second half to seal the victory, I think we will be treated to a handful of goals.
These two teams have played three matches between them in the Carabao Cup this term and each one has seen at least three goals scored. Over 2.5 goals has also struck in three of Cardiff's past five competitive games.
It is also worth noting that this market has been a winning selection in the previous three head-to-head meetings between the two sides, and I think this trend will continue on Tuesday night.
