Canada will continue their preparations for the World Cup next summer as they host Australia at Stadium Saputo in Quebec (00:30, Saturday). Australia have already booked their spot at the 2026 World Cup, and there’s a chance that these two may meet again next summer so this will be a great opportunity for them to take a closer look at one another.

Below you can find my Canada vs Australia predictions, team news and more.

Canada vs Australia Betting Tips

Team News

Nice’s Moise Bombito has emerged as a key defender for Canada, but Jesse Marsch suffered a major blow as Bombito recently fractured his left tibia. He is likely to be out for the remainder of the year, with likely starters Alphonso Davies and Alistair Johnston also out.

It means 19-year-old Luc de Fougerolles is set to partner Rangers defender Derek Cornelius at the back, while further forward Hull’s Liam Millar is back in the squad having returned to fitness after his ACL injury. Young midfielder Nathan Saliba of Anderlecht has also been included and will hope to get some minutes.

Football Odds

Australia are without Fran Karacic after his withdrawal from the squad, with Jacob Italiano now included and hoping to win his first cap. There’s an awful lot of excitement about Watford’s Nestory Irankunda, who at the age of 19, is establishing himself as one of his nation’s key players.

21-year-old Mohamed Toure is at Randers and also has potential to make an impact, while at the other end of his career Mat Ryan is back involved having missed the double header against New Zealand. Mitch Duke and Martin Boyle offer excellent experience as strikers, but Tony Popovic is without the likes of Jackson Irvine and Harry Souttar.

Canada vs Australia Predicted Lineups

  • Australia - Ryan; Degenek, Burgess, Miller, Rowles, Circa; Balard, O'Neill; Metcafe, Irankunda, Boyle

Today's Football Fixtures

Canada vs Australia Odds

Canada are the 4/5 favourites to win this game, giving them an implied win probability of 55%. Australia are the 4/1 underdogs while a draw can be backed at 12/5.

Over 2.5 goals is 6/5, BTTS is 11/10 and Jonathan David is the 7/2 favourite to open the scoring having netted 37 goals in 69 appearances for his country to date.

Canada vs Australia Stats

  • Canada have kept back-to-back clean sheets
  • Australia have won their last six fixtures
  • Nestory Irankunda has two goals in seven caps

Australia to win @ 4/1

Canada had a strong international window in September and look to be approaching the World Cup with a decent amount of momentum. Away wins against Romania and Wales provided good experience, and they now sit 26th in the Fifa world rankings, one place below Australia, so they are certainly no mugs heading into a home tournament.

Marsch deserves credit for the work he has done in charge of the national team, and back-to-back clean sheets will go some way to growing the belief that they can get out of the group stage as a minimum target next summer. However, they’ve suffered several key injuries and these friendlies aren't always the best preparation for a major tournament.

It’s why the price on a home win surprises me and so I’m keen to oppose Marsch’s men. Australia are a decent outfit and although we always expect them to get to the World Cup - they are on a decent winning streak. They’ve now won their last six matches, including earning an away win against Saudi Arabia in World Cup qualifying - which is not to be sniffed at. I think the value on offer is massive for the visitors to take advantage of a Canada side missing Davies and Co.

Nestory Irankunda to score anytime @ 18/5

The teenager is good. Like, realy good. His schooling at Adelaide United was then taken on by Bayern Munich, and now he’s finally moved into senior football he looks to be a sensational talent. His move to Watford looks to have been a good one as he is getting key exposure at Championship level, and he has delivered two sublime free-kicks so far.

He has also broken into the Australian team, scoring two goals in seven international matches. A tricky winger, he is also a free-kick specialist and I think against a Canadian defence that is looking to prove itself, he could find the net at a big price.
