Cambridge vs Wycombe

Cambridge United will be sure of their place in League One for next season if they can beat Wycombe Wanderers at home on Tuesday night (19:45), but the visitors are finishing the season in fine form and targeting a top-10 finish.

The U's may already have enough points to stay up but adding three more would end any chance of a nervy final day on Saturday. Wycombe will be playing their sixth match in 17 days after acquiring a fixture backlog due to their run to the EFL Trophy final but they have won three successive away games and are favourites to make it four at the Abbey Stadium.

Match Odds

Wycombe are favourites to win on the road and are priced at 6/4 to win the match, with Cambridge available at 7/4 and the draw on offer at 15/8.

Over 2.5 goals in the game is priced at 6/5 with under 2.5 at 8/13 and it's 5/6 that both teams score in the game with the same odds on offer for only one side or neither team to find the net.

Gassan Ahadme of Cambridge is the 6/1 favourite to score the first goal of the match.

Team News

Jack Stevens, Harrison Dunk and George Thomas could all be out for Cambridge and Mamadou Jobe is another injury doubt. James Brophy and Lyle Taylor are in contention to return to the line-up.

Brandon Hanlan, Saxon Earley and Kane Vincent-Young are out for Wycombe, who could continue to rotate their starting line-up having done so throughout their busy recent schedule. Sam Vokes, Matt Butcher, Kieran Sadlier, Ryan Tafazolli and Jack Grimmer could all be involved.

Wycombe @ 6/4

Wycombe have won three successive away games against teams in the bottom seven of League One and they are capable of adding another when they visit Cambridge on Tuesday.

While Cambridge arguably have a greater need for the points as they are not yet safe from relegation, that has been the case for several weeks and they have won only two of their last 13 games.

Performances have improved to some extent since Garry Monk took over as manager last month but after picking up six valuable points in back-to-back wins over Barnsley and Wigan, United have not won any of their last four games.

All three of their losses in that time were by only one goal and to decent teams in Blackpool, Bristol Rovers and Derby, while they picked up a solid point against Charlton at home. However, Cambridge look set to survive due to other teams being worse, rather than saving themselves with an upturn in form.

Wycombe have their own targets for the last two games. A win would take them into the top 10 of League One and securing a top-half finish would be a nice addition to their appearance in the EFL Trophy final.

The Chairboys are having their best spell of the season and have been able to keep the points flowing against the division's weaker sides despite rotating their squad to keep players fresh.

Wanderers' recent losses have all come against stronger teams than Cambridge with Peterborough (in the EFL Trophy final), Portsmouth, Barnsley, Stevenage and Bolton being the last five teams to beat them.

They should be capable of keeping their excellent road run going against a limited home team.

Wycombe to win at 6/4 Wycombe to win 2-0 correct score @ 11/1

Goals have been thin on the ground in recent Cambridge games and five of their last six games have had under 2.5 goals, while six of their last eight home league games have also had no more than two goals.

Cambridge have failed to score in eight of their last 12 games, scoring only once in their last four outings, and the first meeting between these teams this season was a goalless encounter in October.

Wycombe have been a fairly dour side for much of the season but they have upped their goal output in recent matches, scoring seven goals in their last three games.

The visitors have the ability to strike at least twice against Cambridge, so a correct-score interest in a 2-0 away win at 11/1 looks decent value.
