Cambridge vs Wrexham Prediction: Goals likely in crucial League One contest

Wrexham have won five of their last six League One matches and that good form has propelled the Red Dragons into the automatic promotion places ahead of Tuesday’s (Kick-off 19:45, Sky Sports+) League One clash at Cambridge United.
Cambridge are struggling at the other end of the third-tier table and the U’s look to be heading for League Two. However, Neil Harris’ side will continue to battle in their bid to avoid relegation and the Abbey Stadium is set for an entertaining contest.

Team news
Cambridge have lost Jordan Cousins for the rest of the season after the midfielder suffered a hamstring injury. Dan Nlundulu was not part of the squad which drew 1-1 with Northampton on Saturday.
Manager Harris opted for an unchanged side against the Cobblers last time out, but the former Millwall forward may alter his team with Liam Bennett and Ryan Loft pushing for starts against Wrexham.
The Red Dragons have a largely clean bill of health with Andy Cannon the only absentee. Ryan Barnett, Sebastian Revan and Callum Burton have all returned from injury, but striker Paul Mullin is unlikely to be part of the squad after falling out of favour.
Cambridge are 7/2 chances at the Abbey Stadium, with Wrexham 5/6 shots and the draw available at 5/2.
Over 2.5 goals @ 5/4
A run of five victories in six League One matches has Wrexham in the League One automatic promotion places and Phil Parkinson’s men will no doubt be targeting another crucial three points when they head to struggling Cambridge.
All of the Red Dragons’ last seven third tier games have gone under 2.5 goals, but Wrexham have faced Bolton, Reading, Huddersfield, Stockport and Wycombe on that run and they are all teams who have eyes on promotion to the Championship too.
That’s not the case for Cambridge, who look likely to be playing League Two football next season and Harris’ men are desperate for three points if they are to have any chance of avoiding relegation.
The U’s have kept only two clean sheets in their last 26 matches, and pushing forward in the search for a vital three points, won’t help Cambridge keep things tight.
These two sides played out a 2-2 draw at the Racecourse Ground earlier in the campaign and another high-scoring contest is on the cards on Tuesday night.

James Brophy anytime goalscorer @ 9/1
Wrexham have been on an excellent run of results, but it’s fair to say that Parkinson’s men have enjoyed their fair share of good fortune. The Red Dragons have actually lost the shot count in five of their last six matches and Cambridge may cause the Welsh side more problems than the market anticipates.
Wrexham were the better side when winning 2-0 at Exeter last weekend, but the same can’t be said for their recent victories over Rotherham, Wycombe and Stockport.
If the U’s can put in a big performance, then James Brophy could get on the scoresheet.
The wide man found the back of the net against Northampton on Saturday, with that strike following a goal against Barnsley.
Brophy is in decent form and looks a good anytime goalscorer option in this one at 9/1.
