Burnley boss Scott Parker may be on the end of a lot of unwarranted criticism right now. I’m not his biggest fan, but after a 1-0 success at the weekend, they are now just two points off the top of the table.

Their next test comes at Turf Moor against a Coventry City side (19:45, Sky Sports+) that have secured draws against Sunderland and Sheffield United since the departure of Mark Robins. With Rhys Carr likely to take charge of this one as well, below you can find my Burnley vs Coventry City predictions featuring team news and betting tips.

Burnley vs Coventry City Betting Tips

  • Under 1.5 goals @ 2/1
  • Burnley 1-0 Coventry @ 6/1

Team News

Burnley’s teamsheet on Saturday raised a couple of eyebrows amongst the fanbase as Zian Flemming was missing from the squad, and Jay Rodriguez started up front. Mike Tresor and Lyle Foster were also absent, with Parker not giving too much away about those absentees.

Jeremy Sarmiento was also unlucky to lose his place in the XI and could return here in the number 10 role, with Jaidon Anthony finding the net from the right wing and Luca Koleosho a certainty to start on the left. The defence is sure to remain unchanged after another clean sheet, with James Trafford and Maxime Esteve two stars of Burnley’s season so far.

Meanwhile, Coventry have been equally coy about their injuries. Haji Wright is expected to be out until Christmas after damaging his ankle and the American missed the draw with Sheffield United on Saturday. Meanwhile, Jake Bidwell returned to action after a spell on the sidelines, while Jamie Allen was an unused substitute as the midfielder recovered from his issue to appear in the matchday squad.

It seems likely Coventry will continue with the box midfield that served them well against Sheffield United, with a back three composed of Joel Latibeaudiere, Bobby Thomas and Luis Binks. Jay Dasilva came off injured against Sheff Utd so Bidwell may be thrown into the starting line-up earlier than anticipated. Norman Bassette should start up front after an impressive showing against the Blades.

Burnley vs Coventry City Odds

Burnley are priced at 23/20 to win this game, giving them an implied win probability of 46%. Coventry are available at 12/5, a draw is the same price and over 2.5 goals is 11/10. BTTS is 5/6 and Foster is the favourite to score first at 6/1.

Under 1.5 goals @ 2/1

Burnley’s lack of goals this season has been their biggest problem to date. They have only scored three goals in their last six outings and despite the wealth of attacking talent at their disposal. With Koleosho and Anthony on either wing it is somewhat concerning that they are not tearing teams apart, and I don’t think that will change as they host Coventry on Tuesday night.

Now the Sky Blues are not solid defensively, and have conceded twice against both Sunderland and Sheffield United in the last two outings. However, they are likely to operate with a back five where defending will be the priority, and look to hit Burnley on the counter-attack. I think they can get something if they aim for a clean sheet at Turf Moor, but I certainly expect a low-scoring affair on Tuesday night.

Burnley 1-0 Coventry @ 6/1

Burnley have won their last two games 1-0, while their last five matches have all had one or fewer goals in. I’ve already explained my reasoning for this to be a fairly stale game, but I do think the home side will come out on top. Coventry are still managerless, and although they’ve done alright without Robins, they played against 10-men for the majority of the game against Sheff Utd.

Burnley are likely to put them under enough pressure that they will break through at some point against a Coventry outfit that have only kept one clean sheet in their last eight matches. We are getting a big price on a third 1-0 win in a row for the Clarets. They might not be all that entertaining, but they are getting results.
