Stuttgart vs Bayern Munich Prediction: Magic man Musiala to strike again

Bayern Munich host Bayer Leverkusen in the first leg of their Uefa Champions League last-16 tie next Wednesday but before that all-German clash on European club football's biggest stage, they have a big Bundesliga trip to MHPArena to come as they take on Stuttgart on Friday night (19:30, Sky Sports Mix).

Below are my Stuttgart vs Bayern Munich predictions, supported by all the latest team news and match odds.

Team News

Dan-Axel Zagadou (knee), Christopher Olivier (ankle), Luca Raimund (thigh) and El Bilal Toure (foot) are out injured for the hosts, but Ameen Al Dakhil could return from injury.

Nick Woltemade was rewarded for his strike in Stuttgart's 2-1 defeat to Wolfsburg on February 15 with a start against Hoffenheim last Sunday and he repaid Sebastian Hoeness' faith in him by opening the scoring in the ninth minute, although Gift Orban levelled the scores at 1-1 later in the game.

Woltemade should start again up top on Friday alongside Deniz Undav.

Football Odds

Joshua Kimmich was forced off in last Sunday's 4-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt with tendonitis and is unlikely to be involved on Friday. “He probably won't be travelling with us. The game is probably too early for him,” said Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany.

Aleksandar Pavlovic, on the other hand, is fit to play despite missing training on Wednesday.

Dayot Upamecano (back) and Daniel Peretz (kidney contusion) are sidelined for the visitors.

Stuttgart vs Bayern Munich Odds

Stuttgart have lost their last two Bundesliga home games and were beaten 3-1 by Bayern at the Allianz Arena in October, although they did beat the Bavarians 3-1 at MHPArena last May.

Die Roten are 18/5 to triumph at home for the first time since January 18, implying a probability of 21.7%, while the visitors are 4/6, or a 60% chance, to make it back-to-back wins.

A first draw between the two teams since September 2022 is priced at 16/5, both teams to score at 8/15, and over 2.5 total goals 1/2.

Harry Kane (5/6) heads the anytime goalscorer market followed by teammate Jamal Musiala (7/4), with Undav next up at 15/8.

Musiala slalomed his way past two Frankfurt defenders last Sunday to score his 11th Bundesliga goal of the current campaign and he needs just one more to match his highest-season tally of 12 in 22/23.

The 22-year-old has missed Bayern's last two games against Stuttgart and only has one career goal against Die Roten, netting in a 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena in October 2022.

He looks a good bet to bag on Friday, though, with Kompany not expected to make too many changes considering his side will have four full days of rest before Wednesday's European tie against Leverkusen.

Stuttgart haven't kept a clean sheet in their last five Bundesliga matches and have shipped at least four goals in their last three head-to-heads with Bayern.

Undav is averaging 1.5 shots on target per game in the 24/25 Bundesliga, down slightly on 1.8 last season, and in the corresponding fixture last May, he forced a save from Bayern captain Manuel Neuer. The Germany international hit the target with both of his shots against Hoffenheim last Sunday and has managed at least one in seven of his last eight league outings.

Musiala, meanwhile, is averaging 1.4 shots on target per game, scoring and forcing a save from Frankfurt's Kevin Trapp last weekend. He's managed at least one in three of his last four league appearances and as I'm already backing him to score in this contest, I'm obviously well behind his inclusion in this price boost.

Last up is Bayern's marquee signing last summer, Michael Olise, who is averaging one shot on target per Bundesliga game since moving from Crystal Palace. Like Musiala, Olise scored against Frankfurt, registering three shots on target in total, and he saw an effort kept out by on-loan Bayern goalkeeper Alexander Nubel in October's reverse fixture.
