Mainz vs Heidenheim Prediction: Basement Bundesliga clash offers value

The Bundesliga table doesn’t make great reading for either Mainz or Heidenheim this season. The bottom two meet tonight (19:45 GMT), in what has to be dubbed a relegation six-pointer, with defeat potentially catastrophic for either side.
Below you can find my Mainz vs Heidenheim predictions featuring team news and betting tips.

Team News
Andreas Hanche-Olsen missed out on the trip to Berlin after picking up an injury and he looks set to miss out again here. He is set to join Anthony Caci, Maxim Leitch and Phillipp Mwene on the sidelines, leaving Urs Fischer with a bit of a defensive headache.
Stefan Bell, Danny da Costa and Dominik Kohr should line up as the back three in a 3-5-2, with Phillip Tietz likely to partner Benedict Hollerbach up front. Fellow striker Silas, joined the club in the summer but is back in training and could feature from the bench.
Heidenheim have a few concerns ahead of this one, as Hennes Behrens has a thigh injury and Adam Kolle is ill. Georgian forward Budu Zivzivadze has missed five games through injury, so Marvin Pieringer will continue to lead the line.
Mainz vs Heidenheim Predicted Lineups
- Mainz 05 - Batz; Da Costa, Bell, Kohr; Widmer, Sano, Lee, Veratschnig; Amiri; Hollerbach, Tietz
- Heidenheim - Ramaj; Traore, Mainka, Siersleben, Fohrenbach; Schoppner, Niehues, Dorsch; Ibrahimovic, Pieringer, Conteh
Mainz have been installed as the 8/11 favourites to win this massive clash, giving them an implied win probability of 58% ahead of kick off. Heidenheim face an uphill battle at 7/2, while a draw is 11/4.
Under 2.5 goals is 11/10, BTTS is 4/6 and Hollerbach has been boosted to 4/1 to open the scoring.
Mainz vs Heidenheim Stats
- Mainz have scored five home goals in eight matches
- Heidenheim have scored five away goals in eight
- Mainz drew their last home game 0-0
Under 2.5 goals @ 11/10
The bottom two teams in the Bundesliga are unlikely to produce a game of much quality, and I think the pressure will lead to a very stingy game in terms of chances. Mainz have only scored five goals in eight home games this season, failing to win a single match in front of their own fans, while Heidenheim have scored just five goals away from home this term.
Those statistics are music to my ears when I see that under 2.5 goals has been priced at a massive 11/10. I know there are concerns about both defences, but there’s nothing too concerning from an attacking standpoint, so I think this pick offers excellent value.

Correct Score - Mainz 0-0 Heidenheim @ 12/1
More value in my eyes. Now Mainz have been reasonably good going forward lately, scoring two goals in two of their last three games, but they also drew their last home game 0-0 against St Pauli.
Mainz have drawn their last three outings, while Heidenheim are currently three points ahead of their relegation rivals and will set up not to lose this game. I see a very defensive display from the away side, and they would love to walk away with a clean sheet, making 0-0 another big price.
