Bayer Leverkusen won a seven-goal thriller at VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga before the international break. They resume their campaign on Friday (19:30, Sky Sports Mix) as they welcome VfL Bochum to BayArena. Leverkusen's last home game saw them stunned by Werder Bremen, which was only their second league defeat here this term.

Bochum recently stunned Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, which gave a glimmer of hope in their survival bid, but this was followed by a home defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt last time out. Read on for my Bayer Leverkusen vs Bochum predictions, supported by the latest match odds and team news.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Bochum Betting Tips

Team News

Leverkusen are having to cope without Mario Hermoso, who joined the club in January, due to a shoulder issue that is going to keep him out of action for the rest of the season. Fellow defender Edmond Tapsoba has also been sidelined and it remains to be seen if he will be declared fit to play on Friday.

Midfielder Robert Andrich partnered Jonathan Tah in the heart of defence against Stuttgart last time out, and Xabi Alonso may consider this pairing again when they host Bochum.

If Andrich is needed elsewhere, we could see Aleix Garcia continue to operate alongside captain Granit Xhaka in the engine room.

Florian Wirtz, Martin Terrier and Nathan Tella are the attacking stars in the infirmary for the hosts, so Die Werkself will turn to top scorer Patrik Schick for inspiration.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Bochum Stats

  • Bayer Leverkusen have lost just one of their last 12 home games in the league
  • Patrik Schick is the second-top scorer in the Bundesliga with 17 goals

Bochum will welcome back defender Bernardo back from suspension, so he will likely slot back into the back three for the trip to BayArena. Dieter Hecking tried a back four in the last game but it didn't go to plan, so Die Unabsteigbaren are likely to go back to the system that saw them best league leaders Bayern earlier this month.

Moritz Broschinski was considered a doubt for the defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt last time out but was able to make an appearance from the bench. The forward will be itching to reclaim a starting place from either Girogos Masouras or Philipp Hofmann.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Bochum Odds

Bayer Leverkusen have won three of their last four matches in the Bundesliga and they are 1/4 to come out on top on Friday. Both teams to score has been a winning selection in two of their last three games so adding this to the selection offers better value at 7/4, which has an implied probability of 36.4%.

Bochum have drawn two of their previous three away trips in the top flight and the stalemate is on offer at 5/1. The visitors are 10/1 to come away with the three points, and they did defeat Bayern Munich in their latest fixture on the road.

Over 3.5 goals has been a winning selection in two of Leverkusen's last three games in the league, as well as each of Bochum's past two. This market is on offer at 5/4 (44.4%).

Bayer Leverkusen and both teams to score @ 7/4

When Leverkusen were beaten on home turf by struggling Werder Bremen a few weeks ago, a few concerns arose. However, Alonso's men responded at the first time of asking at Stuttgart, even though they needed a late goal from Schick to wrap up the three points.

The Spanish coach will hand his players another task now to deliver a strong home performance against a side who are also struggling. This doesn't mean that they can afford to estimate Bochum as they need only look at what happened when the visitors played Bayern in Munich recently.

The hosts are currently dealing with some fitness concerns and there is hope that the international break will bring some stars back into contention. The influence Wirtz has on the team is undeniable and he is a huge miss when he isn't playing.

However, Die Werkself still have plenty of talented players available and so there is more than enough quality for them to go out and rack up another victory at home.

Seeing as they haven't kept a clean sheet in their last three league games, though, as well as the fact that both teams to score has been a winning selection in four of Bochum's previous six away trips in the Bundesliga, I think it's worth adding BTTS to this selection.

Patrik Schick anytime goalscorer @ 5/6

Leverkusen front man Schick has been having an excellent season in front of goal, having struck 17 times already in the top flight. The Czech Republic international has had to bide his time for a consistent run in this team, as Victor Boniface led from the front for the majority of last season's title win, but he has seized his chance this term and is reaping the rewards for it.

Only Bayern's Harry Kane (21) has scored more goals in the Bundesliga than Schick this campaign. He has been in good form of late, with three goals in his past four league appearances, while he also kept his form going on the international stage with three goals in the latest international break.

The striker has already scored against Bochum this season, too, so I think he offers good value to haunt them again.
