Augsburg vs Bayern Munich Prediction: League leaders face a tough battle

Bayern Munich may be six points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table but they face a difficult away trip to Augsburg on Friday (19:30, Sky Sports Mix), with the hosts currently 11 games unbeaten in the top flight.
The visitors are still having to cope with a number of injuries across defence and midfield, which could hinder their chances at the WWK Arena. Below you will find my Augsburg vs Bayern Munich predictions, featuring the latest team news and match odds.

Team News
Augsburg boss Jess Thorup has most of his squad to choose from against the league leaders, but he is having to cope without winger Yusuf Kabadayi and wing-back Robert Gumny due to injury.
As a result, Marius Wolf and Dimitrios Giannoulis are likely to be deployed either side of central defenders Chrislain Matsima, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw and Cedric Zesiger.
Further up the field, Thorup is likely to stick with a front three. Samuel Essende, who scored from the bench against Hoffenheim on Saturday, is set to be restored as the front man, and he could be aided by Fredrik Jensen and Alexis Claude-Maurice.
Augsburg vs Bayern Munich Stats
- Augsburg are unbeaten in their last 11 league games
- Augsburg have conceded just two goals in their past eight Bundesliga matches
There is a lot of tension between Bayern and the Canada national team because of the knee injury sustained by Alphonso Davies, which has ruled him out for the rest of the season.
Dayot Upamecano, Tarek Buchmann and Hiroki Ito are also in the treatment room for Die Roten, leaving Vincent Kompany short of defensive options. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is also sidelined, so expect Jonas Urbig to continue in between the sticks.
The shot-stopper is likely to be shielded by a back four of Konrad Laimer, Eric Dier, Kim Min-jae and Raphael Guerreiro.
Joao Palhinha and Joshua Kimmich should man the engine room due to the absence of Leon Goretzka and Alexander Pavlovic. In the final third, Kingsley Coman remains out of action, so Michael Olise and Leroy Sane are likely to flank forward Harry Kane.
The bookies appear to be ignoring Augsburg's strong form coming into this (three wins from four games) as they come up against the league leaders. The hosts are 7/1 to come away with the victory on Friday evening.
Four of the Fuggerstadter's past seven Bundesliga games have ended in a stalemate, which was also the outcome on Bayern' latest away trip to Union Berlin. The draw is on offer at 18/5, which has an implied probability of 21.7%.
Die Bayern are the 2/5 favourites here, having won 20 of their 27 fixtures to date in the top flight.
Both teams to score has been a successful bet in their previous four outings and it is 10/11 to strike in Augsburg.
Kane has netted 21 goals in the league for Bayern and he is the 5/6 favourite to score anytime.
Draw @ 18/5
Augsburg are a team in confidence right now and so they should be - 11 games unbeaten is an impressive feat. They haven't lost a league game since January 12 and they have built up so much momentum in the past couple of months that they pose a big threat to Bayern on Friday.
The Fuggerstadter have been so strong defensively recently, with just two goals conceded in their last eight appearances. They have kept six clean sheets along the way and this solidity, as well as the fact they are at home, should bode well for them against the table-toppers.
Bayern are going through a slight injury crisis and they have suffered a few setbacks in terms of results in recent weeks including their draw with Union Berlin and a surprise home defeat to strugglers VfL Bochum.
Augsburg are one of the form sides in the division right now and I think they have more than enough to secure an impressive point against Kompany's men.

Under 2.5 goals @ 6/5
Augsburg's resilient defending has me believing that there will be a shortage of goals in this contest. In the hosts' previous eight fixtures in the Bundesliga, seven of them had fewer than three goals, which makes under 2.5 goals an appealing selection.
They have shut out this season's surprise package Mainz 05, Borussia Monchengladbach and RB Leipzig in that time, and I do think they can limit Bayern's attacking power on Friday.
It is also worth noting that under 2.5 goals was a winning selection in two of the visitors' past three away trips in the top flight.
