Football returns to some normality this weekend following the festive period which saw a slight change to some of the usual scheduling.

Some European leagues are still out of action but there are plenty of fixtures across the English Football League and Serie A to keep us entertained and it's to England and Italy we go for Saturday's BTTS Tips, which you can find below.

BTTS Yes in Tottenham Hotspur vs Newcastle United (12:30, TNT Sports 1) @ 1/3

Both Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United sit in the bottom half of the BTTS Premier League table with 58 per cent and 53 per cent of their 19 matches, respectively, ending with at least a goal on either side, although Spurs (80 per cent) sit third if only home games counted, and the Magpies (70 per cent) joint third if only away contests are considered.

Tottenham v Newcastle is a fixture dominated by goals - for both teams - as nine of the last 10 Premier League head-to-heads - including the last four at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - have seen BTTS - Yes land.

Saturday's visitors have kept four consecutive clean sheets in the league but the first two of those were against Leicester City and Ipswich Town, two newly promoted clubs currently in the relegation zone, the third against Aston Villa, who were reduced to 10 men inside 33 minutes, and the fourth against a hapless Manchester United side that have lost their last three games without scoring.

Spurs have serious issues in defence but they have scored in four of their last five matches and nine of their 10 at home in the league, with both teams finding the net in eight of them.

BTTS Yes in Venezia vs Empoli (14:00) @ 5/6

Over in Italy, two bottom-half Serie A sides, Venezia and Empoli, lock horns at the Stadio Pierluigi Penzo, with both looking to return to winning ways after ending 2024 on a defeat.

The two teams have identical records in the BTTS table with 50 per cent of their 18 games finishing with at least one goal scored, although Empoli's numbers are swelled by their away trips, 78 per cent of which have seen both teams score.

BTTS - Yes has been a winner in four of Venezia's last five home games and five of Empoli's last six away matches (league only), so with both clubs looking for all three points on Saturday, I think we can expect a goal or two on either side.

BTTS Yes in Norwich City vs Coventry City (15:00) @ 4/7

Back in England, Norwich City host fellow Championship outfit Coventry City at Carrow Road. Norwich are the division's third top scorers (41 goals) but have been held back by their defensive issues which have seen them concede 36 times - only six clubs have shipped more strikes.

Coventry have only allowed one fewer goal than the Canaries and while they haven't been as prolific at the other end, scoring just 33 times, half (four) of their games under new head coach Frank Lampard have seen both teams find the net, most recently on New Year's Day when they drew 1-1 at Cardiff City.

Norwich top the Championship BTTS table as both teams have struck in 64 per cent (16/25) of their league games and they are one of just five teams to post a higher percentage than the Sky Blues (56 per cent).

BTTS Yes in Wrexham vs Peterborough United (15:00) @ 4/6

Unsurprisingly, given they have netted 41 times - the second-highest tally in League 1 - and conceded a division-high 45 goals, Peterborough United top the third-tier BTTS table with 74 per cent (17/24) of their league games ending with at least a goal on either side.

Wrexham feature much lower down with only 42 per cent (10/24) of their matches seeing both teams score, although that number rises slightly to 46 per cent when just considering their home contests.

Both teams to score has landed in Wrexham's last five games so it's becoming much more common for the Welsh side who could be involved in a high-scoring encounter with the Posh at the Racecourse Ground this weekend.

BTTS Yes in Hellas Verona vs Udinese (19:45) @ 8/11

We end this acca in Italy as Hellas Verona host Udinese at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi. Both clubs have seen BTTS - Yes land more often than not in Serie A this season with 61 per cent (11/18) of the visitors' league games ending with at least one goal on either side while it's 56 per cent (10/18) for Verona who have won two of their last three matches 3-2.

Udinese were involved in a high-scoring encounter themselves last time out as they drew 2-2 with Torino and their last four Serie A contests have seen both teams score.

The two sides played out an entertaining 3-3 in December 2023 and while I'm not necessarily backing another six goals to be scored, I do think there is at least one in this for both on Saturday.
