Leg 1 - Fulham vs Newcastle United

Looking at the league table, you’d probably think that the Toon are looking pretty good. Played four, won three and drawn one is a very solid start to the campaign. The problem is they’ve been failing the eye test pretty spectacularly.

Yet, BTTS has been a winner in three of their four Premier League games and only Southampton failed to score against them. With the likes of Sandro Tonali and Joe Willock getting back to form and fitness, you’d expect performances to improve.

Fulham too are at 75 per cent for BTTS, with their only miss coming at Old Trafford, a game where they had multiple good chances in the second half. This feels like one of the more obvious spots for this bet this weekend, with the question marks in Newcastle's defence but their quality going forward.

Leg 2 - Leicester City vs Everton

Oh Everton. Things are not going well for the blue half of the city of Liverpool but they have at least been picking up in front of goal in recent matches. Two 3–2 defeats on the spin might not be good for the heart rate of supporters but it is a good trend for BTTS backers.

Leicester City have actually started their season in surprisingly decent form. An opening weekend game at home to Spurs looked to be going one-way until Jamie Vardy found the back of the net and everything changed. They were also an injury-time penalty away from taking all three points away from Selhurst Park.

The Foxes are four for four when it comes to both scoring and conceding in the Premier League so far and they could easily be five on Saturday.

Leg 3 - Burnley vs Portsmouth

Pompey fans are seeing two very different sides in the early days of their return to the second tier. At home, they’ve failed to score and in reality, not even created a gilt-edged opportunity in 270 minutes of football. Not good.

Yet if they get on the coach and head away from Fratton Park, it has been a different kettle of fish. A 3-3 draw at Leeds was followed up by a 2-2 result at Middlesbrough, which shows that their style may well be better suited to counter-attacking play.

Burnley are short-priced favourites to win this one and have already scored four at Luton and five at home against Cardiff City. They have plenty of attacking talent and should find the net than once against a Portsmouth side who have conceded at least twice in four of their five games. The visitors though shouldn’t be ignored to find the back of the net at least once themselves based on their experiences on the road so far this season.

Leg 4 - Rotherham United vs Birmingham City

The visitors here are one of only two sides in EFL League One with a 100 per cent BTTS record (along with Mansfield Town). I like them to continue that run on Saturday as they travel to play a Rotherham side who have so far been a little bit disappointing.

Steve Evans’ side haven’t set the world alight despite investing heavily in players who have produced at this level before in the summer. They have though started paying back backers of this bet as they are on a four-game BTTS streak in all competitions.

Birmingham also invested heavily in the transfer window and EFL League One record signing Jay Stansfield scored twice in the 3-1 win over top of the table Wrexham. The 21-year-old is expected to score the goals to see the Blues make a swift return to the Championship and he should be fancied to hit the back of the net here.

Leg 5 - Dumbarton vs Montrose

When I do the BTTS column, I’m always looking to throw in one wildcard match-up with a statistic that seems overwhelming.

This is why this Scottish clash makes the list as did you know, Dumbarton have played six games this season in the league and have recorded six score draws. That run has to end at some point but they’ve scored 10 and conceded the same amount in those matches. Why not roll with them one more time to provide the final leg in a BTTS fivefold?
