Friday 10th January 2025, 17:46pm

We got off to a great start in last weekend's BTTS Tips column as both teams scored in the first three selections; however, Peterborough United let us down in a 1-0 defeat to Wrexham before Hellas Verona and Udinese played out a goalless draw in Italy, a game not helped by a red card shown to Verona's Suat Serdar.

Undeterred, I'm back this Saturday, January 11 with another five games to consider, and this weekend's BTTS accumulator sees us land in England, Italy, France and the Netherlands.

BTTS Tips - Saturday, January 11

  • BTTS Yes in Udinese vs Atalanta (14:00) @ 4/5
  • BTTS Yes in Norwich City vs Brighton & Hove Albion (15:00) @ 8/13
  • BTTS Yes in Coventry City vs Sheffield Wednesday (18:00) @ 8/13
  • BTTS Yes in PSV Eindhoven vs AZ Alkmaar (20:00) @ 4/6
  • BTTS Yes in Stade Rennais vs Olympique Marseille (20:05) @ 8/11

BTTS Yes in Udinese vs Atalanta (14:00) @ 4/5

Udinese might have let us down in last weekend's column but they still rank highly in the Serie A BTTS table with 58 per cent (11) of their 15 league games ending with at least one goal on either side. Their visitors to Bluenergy Stadium on Saturday, Atalanta, have also seen BTTS - Yes land 11 times in Italy's top flight this term, but their percentage (61 per cent) is higher as they have played a match fewer.

La Dea are the division's second-most prolific scorers having struck just two fewer goals than Inter's 45 and they will be hurting after their Super Cup semi-final defeat to I Nerazzurri (2-0) in Riyadh last week. They will also want to keep pace with leaders Napoli, who host Verona on Sunday.

As such, Atalanta will be going all out for the win on Saturday, while Udinese will be looking for a first win post-Christmas having drawn their last two with Verona and Torino (2-2).

Udinese have scored in seven of their nine home matches in 2024/25 and opened the scoring in November's reverse fixture in Bergamo before falling to a 2-1 defeat.

BTTS Yes in Norwich City vs Brighton & Hove Albion (15:00) @ 8/13

One of two FA Cup third-round picks in this BTTS acca, Norwich City host Brighton & Hove Albion at Carrow Road looking to cause an upset against the Premier League side.

The second-tier Canaries have been in fine form of late, winning three times in a four-game unbeaten run post-Christmas to reignite their promotion charge, although they still sit 11th in the Championship and four points behind sixth-placed West Bromwich Albion.

If it was just down to their attack, Norwich would be much higher in the table as only Leeds United (48) have scored more goals than the Canaries (43). However, they've also conceded 37 times - only Oxford United (40) and Sheffield Wednesday (38) have shipped more goals in the top 19. It's no surprise, then, to see Norwich top the Championship BTTS table with a goal for either side in 65 per cent (17) of their 26 contests.

Like Norwich, Brighton - alongside Fulham - top their division's BTTS table with 80 per cent (16) of their 20 Premier League games ending with both teams on the scoresheet.

These are encouraging statistics for a BTTS acca so it would be remiss of me not to include this cup clash.

BTTS Yes in Coventry City vs Sheffield Wednesday (18:00) @ 8/13

Coventry City and Sheffield Wednesday are mere BTTS pups compared to Norwich in the Championship but both teams still feature in the top half of the table by that metric. The Sky Blues are joint fourth as 58 per cent (15) of their second-tier contests have seen both teams score while the Owls (14) are just one game behind.

Coventry and Sheffield Wednesday played each other four times in 2024, twice in the FA Cup, and BTTS - Yes landed in all four meetings.

Changes are expected on both sides at the Coventry Building Society but that shouldn't be too much of a hindrance to both getting on the scoresheet this Saturday. BTTS - Yes has been a winner in Coventry's last two games and Wednesday's last four, too.

BTTS Yes in PSV Eindhoven vs AZ Alkmaar (20:00) @ 4/6

Over in the Netherlands, Saturday's standout fixture comes from the Philips Stadion as PSV Eindhoven host AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch Eredivisie. Leaders PSV are six points clear of Ajax at the halfway stage and are on course for back-to-back titles.

Peter Bosz's side have scored 59 goals in the league, at least 19 more than any other club, and also boast the best defence with just 13 conceded. Still, over half (nine) of their matches have seen both teams find the net and on Saturday they face an opponent who have struck once in three of the last four head-to-heads, all of which have been won by PSV.

AZ have only blanked twice in the Dutch top flight this term and BTTS - Yes has landed in 59 per cent (10) of their league games including their last three away from home.

BTTS Yes in Stade Rennais vs Olympique Marseille (20:05) @ 8/11

Ending this acca are Rennes and Marseille who meet at the former's Roazhon Park on Saturday evening. 16 points separate the sides in Ligue 1 with second-placed Marseille on course to finish runners-up to usual champions Paris Saint-Germain. Things aren't going quite so well at 13th-placed Rennes but they did win their final two home games of 2024, beating St. Etienne 5-0 and Angers 2-0 and only PSG (24), OGC Nice (21) and Brest (17) have scored more goals on their own patch than Les Rouge et Noirs.

Marseille, meanwhile, are the division's most prolific scorers on the road having struck 23 times in eight travel games - three more than the next-best PSG (20). Les Phoceens have emerged triumphant from seven of their eight away trips and arrive in Rennes on Saturday off the back of a 5-1 thrashing of Le Havre last Sunday.

Both teams to score has landed in six of Marseille's last seven Ligue 1 games so I'm confident we can see a seventh in eight at Roazhon Park where Rennes have only been denied on one occasion this season.
