Bristol City vs Rotherham

Rotherham were able to avoid defeat in their first match after the return of former manager Steve Evans but they face a tough task as they head to Ashton Gate for their final away game of the season. It's the Millers' final chance to win on the road, as their previous 22 attempts have yielded 18 defeats and only four points.

Bristol City are in a comfortable mid-table position and still have the incentive of being able to record a top-half finish as they head into their final two games in 12th place. The home team are on a six-match unbeaten run and won't want to let that slip against an already-relegated team who are last in the Championship by a wide margin.

Bristol City vs Rotherham Betting Tips

  • Bristol City win and under 3.5 goals @ 10/11
  • Tommy Conway first goalscorer @ 4/1

Team News

Matt James is a contender to return to the Bristol City midfield, but the home team should be largely unchanged from their 1-1 draw at Norwich.

Rotherham used a midfield diamond in the first game of Steve Evans' second spell as manager but may need a different approach for this game as Portuguese midfielder Cafu is injured.

Arvin Appiah could make his first start of 2024 for the Millers after injury, but defender Peter Kioso is a doubt, and Lee Peltier could also come into the side.

Match Odds

Bristol City are hot favourites at home and are priced at 4/11 to win the game, with Rotherham available at 8/1 and the draw on offer at 18/5.

Over 2.5 goals in the match is priced at 4/5 with under 2.5 at 10/11 and it's 6/5 that both teams score in the game with 8/13 on offer for at least one side to fail to find the net.

Bristol City's Tommy Conway and Nahki Wells are the 4/1 joint-favourites to score the first goal of the match.

Bristol City win and under 3.5 goals @ 10/11

Bristol City have lost only eight of their 22 home games this season and won't want that to change when they host last-placed Rotherham on Saturday.

The Millers have scored just 13 goals in 22 away games with a horrific road goal difference of minus 46, which means their average performance has been a defeat by just over two goals.

There is potential for Rotherham to show further improvement after claiming a point at home to Birmingham in the first game after Evans left Stevenage to return to the club, but that was a goalless draw in a scrappy match, and City should have the quality to overcome the visitors' resistance.

Rotherham have lost 13 of their last 16 games and all four of their league victories this season have come at home, making them the only team in the EFL not to win away.

Their last road win in any competition was 38 games ago in November 2022. They have not scored on the road for 533 minutes and have been shut out in nine of their last 10 games.

Bristol City and under 3.5 goals at 10/11 Tommy Conway first goalscorer @ 4/1

Conway scored both of his team's goals in Bristol City's first win over Rotherham this season and the striker looks a solid choice to open the scoring on Saturday.

Conway got the ball rolling after 24 minutes in City's recent 5-0 home win over Blackburn and added a penalty eight minutes later. He also scored in both of their FA Cup games against Premier League West Ham this season, so has more than enough talent to test the Championship's worst team.
