Brighton to win
I don’t want to question Liverpool’s professionalism heading into this game, but a sesh in Dubai hardly seems like the best preparation for a Premier League match. They’ve already won the title and these last two games are somewhat of a nuisance for them to complete, so obviously I’m going to back Brighton to win.
The Reds have lost two of their last three away matches while the Seagulls are unbeaten in their last three games by comparison. Liverpool have obviously switched off since securing the title with that 5-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur losing to Chelsea and drawing to Arsenal at Anfield last time out.
Now a tough away trip to the South Coast isn’t what they want at this stage of the season, especially given that Brighton have beaten West Ham and Wolves in recent weeks, while also drawing 1-1 with Newcastle United. I’m all in on the Seagulls on Monday night.
BTTS
We have to expect both teams to score in this game as well. It should be an open encounter and despite Liverpool’s hangover, I am expecting one of their stars to find the net. Brighton haven’t been that good defensively of late, only keeping one clean sheet in their last 10, while they have also ranked strongly for BTTS all season.
Only Fulham, having recorded a higher success rate in the BTTS category than Brighton, who have seen both teams score in 69%.
Liverpool have proven themselves to be the best attacking team in the league by far, having scored 83 goals in their 36 matches - 15 more than next-best Newcastle. We should see an entertaining clash at the Amex on Monday night.
Liverpool vs Brighton Stats
- Brighton are unbeaten in their last three games
- Liverpool have lost two of their last three away matches
- Both teams have scored in 69% of Brighton's games
Danny Welbeck to score
Danny Welbeck has emerged as Fabian Hurzeler’s number one striker as the season has come to a close, and he should start again despite the return from suspension of Joao Pedro. His goal against Wolves last time out saw him find the net while wearing the armband, and that took his tally to 10 for the season.
As a result, I’m going to add him to our Bet Builder, as he has three goals in his last six games and seems to be finding the form he showed at the beginning of the campaign once again. Like a fine wine, Welbeck is just getting better and better with age.
Under 32.5 booking points
These two are two of the most disciplined teams in the Premier League according to the Fair Play table, as Liverpool rank fifth and Brighton ninth for fewest cards in 2024/25. If you take that fact, and the fact that there isn’t anything riding on this for the visitors, I think we will see a fairly tepid encounter.
Liverpool won’t fancy getting stuck in and Brighton can’t qualify for Europe given Crystal Palace won the FA Cup, so they will also be a little deflated. This should be a simple game for referee Andy Madley.
