Brighton & Hove Albion vs Crystal Palace Bet Builder Tips: 28/1 shot for Sunday’s M23 Derby

Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace will lock horns at the Amex Stadium on Sunday afternoon (14:00, live on Sky Sports Main Event), for the first M23 Derby of the season.

The Seagulls ran out 4-1 winners in this fixture last year and Fabian Hurzeler will be hoping for a repeat of that scoreline on Sunday. Palace's last win at the Amex came back in 2021, courtesy of a late winner from Christian Benteke. Ahead of Sunday's clash, I've put together my Brighton & Hove Albion vs Crystal Palace bet builder tips, which you can read below.

Match Result - Draw

It may be considered a cliche for derby matches, but some games really do have a draw written all over them and Brighton v Crystal Palace falls firmly into that category.

Five of the last eight meetings between these two sides have resulted in a draw - each of those ending 1-1 - and I believe that trend will continue on Sunday.

In addition, Brighton are unbeaten on home turf this season, winning three and drawing four of their seven games at the Amex. Palace may fancy their chances of causing an upset after their draw with Manchester City last weekend, but I think the sides will cancel each other out, and they'll have to settle for a point each.

Jean-Philippe Mateta to score anytime

Adam Wharton looks set to feature on Sunday after a spell on the sidelines with injury, and combined with the recent return of Eberechi Eze, Oliver Glasner will have a full-strength squad at his disposal.

That should mean more chances created for the forward line, which is why I'm backing Jean-Philippe Mateta to leave his mark on the M23 Derby once more.

The French forward netted the only goal of the game in Palace’s last away outing at Ipswich Town, while he also has a solid record against Brighton, scoring his first ever Eagles goal at the Amex, as well as netting in this fixture last term.

The 27-year-old has two away strikes in four appearances against Brighton, so I think he's a decent option to find the net anytime on Sunday.

Will Hughes to be carded

At the end of the day, this is a derby game so we could see a fiesty contest play out this weekend.

Will Hughes has stepped up to the plate in the aforementioned Wharton's absence, and as a tough-tackling midfielder, the former Derby County man does tend to overstep the mark from time-to-time.

The 29-year-old has six cautions in eight starts this season, which is an average of 0.67 yellows per 90 minutes. In addition, he's also committing an average of 2.35 fouls per 90 minutes.

Hughes was booked in last year's derby against Brighton at Selhurst Park, and was booked in both meetings with the Seagulls the season prior, making him a decent option to find his way into the referee's notebook on Sunday.
