Brighton begin their European journey against AEK Athens at the Amex Stadium on Thursday evening (20:00) in a Europa League clash.

This match marks the start of the Seagulls’ first-ever European campaign, and their sixth-placed finish last season ensured automatic qualification for the Europa League, where they’ve been drawn against Ajax, Marseille and AEK Athens in Group B.

Meanwhile, the visitors dropped out of Champions League qualifying, losing to Royal Antwerp, after winning the Greek Super League last term.

Brighton vs AEK Athens Prediction

  • Brighton over 3.5 goals @ 5/2
  • Evan Ferguson to score anytime @ EVS

Team News

Julio Enciso remains sidelined through injury, alongside Pervis Estupinan and Solly March, both of whom also missed the trip to Old Trafford at the weekend.

AEK Athens have several injury concerns to deal with ahead of their trip to Brighton, with Mijat Gacinovic, Paolo Fernandes and Rodolfo Pizarro currently on the treatment table, while Domagoj Vida was forced off at half time in their recent meeting with Olympiacos.

Brighton over 3.5 goals @ 5/2

It’s certainly hard to back against Brighton at the moment with the form that they’re in.

They dismantled Manchester United at the weekend, and Roberto De Zerbi has received plaudits from the moment he stepped into the Brighton dugout – and deservedly so.

I’m expecting plenty of goals here, as Brighton are full of them. The Seagulls have scored 4+ goals twice, and 3+ goals twice in their last five matches, while AEK haven’t managed one clean sheet in their last eight.

Evan Ferguson to score anytime @ EVS

Ferguson is expected to spearhead the Brighton attack here, after a substitute appearance at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The 18-year-old has four goals in 211 minutes of action this season, meaning he’s averaging a goal every 52 minutes, and I was very impressed with his performance against Newcastle before the international break, where he netted a hat-trick.

I think he’ll flourish on the European stage on Thursday.
