Bournemouth vs Man United Prediction: Two goalscorers can strike on south coast

The most entertaining team to watch in the Premier League at this moment in time are back in action on Saturday as Manchester United travel to Bournemouth for a 17:30 kick-off. Live on Sky Sports Main Event, United will hope to entertain their fans once again, after holding Liverpool to a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford last time out.

Meanwhile, the Cherries saw their five-match unbeaten run ended at the hands of Luton Town last weekend, but could mathematically confirm their survival if results go their way on Saturday. That’s an impressive achievement for Andoni Iraloa, given how poor his team was at the start of the campaign. Below you can find my Bournemouth vs Man United prediction, featuring team news and match odds.

Bournemouth vs Man United Tips

  • Over 3.5 goals @ EVS
  • Solanke and Garnacho both to score @ 5/1

Team News

Bournemouth are without Ryan Fredericks, Luis Sinisterra and Marcus Tavernier, with the latter coming off injured against Luton with a hamstring issue. Antoine Semenyo was also substituted with a niggle in that game, but is expected to return here. Chris Mepham has been ill, and could also return to the matchday squad.

Manchester United’s defensive woes may be eased slightly if Raphael Varane returns to the squad, while Jonny Evans may also feature after the duo missed the Liverpool match. Marcus Rashford was taken off in that one but should play on the south coast, while Scott McTominay also missed out against the title challengers with a knock.

Match Odds

Bournemouth are priced at 7/5 to win this one, while Man United are available at 13/8. That means the visitors have an implied win probability of 38% heading to the Vitality Stadium. A draw can be backed at 3/1, BTTS is 4/11 and over 2.5 goals is 2/5.

Over 3.5 goals @ EVS

Manchester United’s last four games have been absolutely wild. The 4-3 win over Liverpool was chaotic, the 1-1 draw against Brentford was bewildering, the 4-3 loss to Chelsea was gutting, and the 2-2 draw against Liverpool was rather lucky. All four results have featured one thing. A complete disregard for any form of defensive structure, and a will to attack.

Their midfield has looked so open, often with just the immobile Casemiro trusted to hold down the fort. It hasn’t worked in terms of keeping teams at bay, but United have scored a lot of goals - with nine goals against Liverpool and Chelsea across three games.

Meanwhile, over 3.5 goals has been successful in two of Bournemouth’s last three home games, with the 4-3 comeback win over Luton particularly eye-catching. Both teams have also scored in four of their last five, so we are almost guaranteed goals.

Solanke and Garnacho both to score @ 5/1

Given United’s unpredictability, I don’t particularly fancy hanging my hat on predicting the outcome here. They could win comfortably, or face another tricky afternoon, so I’m going to steer clear of that sort of tip. Instead, given goals are a near-certainty, I’m happy to back two correct anytime scorers at a price of 5/1.

Dom Solanke makes perfect sense for the hosts given that he has scored 16 league goals this term, and is by far the host’s leading marksman. He should be able to find the net against a leaky United backline, while I’m picking out Alejandro Garnacho for the visitors. Rashford may not be fit to start, and Garnacho looks like their most threatening attacker in my eyes.

He scored twice in the recent away trip to Chelsea and should cause Bournemouth a threat from out wide. United are in fine fettle in front of goal at the moment, so I'm happy to pick out the 19-year-old as a potential goalscorer on the south coast.
