Botafogo vs Seattle Sounders Prediction: Brazilians class can show

Botafogo and Seattle Sounders will be well aware that a victory at Lumen Field is a must if they are to escape Group B of the Club World Cup.

With European heavyweights PSG and Atletico Madrid making up the section, defeat on Sunday could be a big blow to qualification hopes. Botafogo will be without injured pair Matheus Martins and Jeffinho. New signing Joaquin Correa is struggling for fitness, while Cuiabano is also a doubt. Igor Jesus is set to make a summer move to Nottingham Forest, but the striker remains available to manager Renato Paiva.

Jordan Morris is a doubt with a hamstring strain, Yeimar Gomez Andrade is also struggling with injury and there are concerns over Kim Kee-hee.

Botafogo to beat Seattle @ 23/20

Seattle will have home advantage at Lumen Field when the Sounders get their Club World Cup campaign underway against Botafogo, but that could be the end of the positives for Brian Schmetzer’s men.

It was a tricky start to the domestic season for Botafogo, but Fire have won six of their last eight matches and they appear to be moving in the right direction.

Former manager Artur Jorge was replaced by Renato Paiva in February and it was always likely for a team in transition to go through a sticky spell.

However, it’s worth remembering that Botafogo won the Brazilian title and the Copa Libertadores last season and they look a class above Seattle.

The Sounders signed off from MLS duty with a 3-0 crushing at Vancouver and Schmetzer’s men are likely to be without record goalscorer Jordan Morris.

Botafogo are 23/20 to win at Lumen Field and Fire should probably be odds-on chances to get the better of the Sounders.

Botafogo should have enough to beat Seattle, but it may not be a high-scoring success. Fire are a solid side, who have conceded only seven goals in 11 Brazilian top-flight matches this season.

Paiva’s men have hit 14 strikes at the other end, but the Sounders will be well aware of what is on the line at Lumen Field and Seattle are likely to dig in and attempt to make life tough for the Brazilians.

Backing under 2.5 goals looks another wager to place on Sunday.
