There is an interesting top-eight clash coming our way from the Bundesliga on Friday (19:30, Sky Sports Mix) as Borussia Monchengladbach host Mainz 05 to Borussia Park. Die Fohlen are eighth in the table and have won three of their last five matches in the top flight.

The visitors are on a three-game winning run, which included two away fixtures, and they are currently fourth in the standings. Below you will find my Borussia Monchengladbach vs Mainz 05 predictions, featuring the latest match odds and team news.

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Mainz 05 Odds

Borussia Monchengladbach have won six of their 12 home matches in the Bundesliga this season, so there is value in backing them to win at 6/4, which has an implied probability of 40%.

One of Die Fohlen's last two home appearances in the league ended in a stalemate, which was also the outcome in the reverse fixture with Mainz. The draw is available at 12/5.

Mainz are 7/4 (36.4%) to come away with the three points, which they have accomplished in their past three outings in the top flight, which included two games on their travels.

Jonathan Burkardt has scored 14 goals in the Bundesliga for Die Nullfunfer, and he is the joint-favourite at 8/5 to strike anytime on Friday.

Team News

Gladbach are without the services of defenders Joe Scally and Ko Itakura due to suspension. Moritz Nicolas is sidelined with a groin injury and will not feature for the rest of the campaign.

Jonas Omlin will play in between the sticks and will likely be shielded by a back four of Stefan Lainer, Nico Elvedi, Marvin Friedrich and Lukas Ullrich.

Rocco Reitz, an energetic presence in midfield, is also unavailable, so Philipp Sander could partner Julian Weigl in the engine room.

In attack, Franck Honorat is another absentee and so front man Tim Kleindienst should be aided by Alassane Plea, Nathan N'Goumou and Robin Hack, with the latter two scoring three goals between them in the win at Heidenheim last Saturday.

Stefan Bell is Mainz's only player ruled out, so they are expected to name a back three of Danny da Costa, Moritz Jenz and Dominik Kohr.

Nadiem Amiri and Kaishu Sano look nailed on to start in a double pivot, with the duo having been an important pairing this term.

Top scorer Burkardt will continue to lead the line for Die Nullfunfer and support is set to be provided by Paul Nebel and Lee Jae-sung.

Draw and both teams to score @ 3/1

Mainz have the momentum coming into this clash and they will be gunning for a fourth-straight victory in the league when they head to Borussia Park on Friday. Gladbach may not share such a streak but they have picked up three wins from their last five matches, and there is little to separate the two teams.

There are four points between them as things stand and in terms of goals scored, Mainz's tally of 39 is just one more than their hosts. Both teams have their eyes set on qualifying for European football next season, and games like this against opponents who can hinder this quest are all-too important.

It is one that neither side will feel they can afford to lose. Gladbach will be boosted by the home advantage, but Mainz are tricky opponents and victory is not assured.

The game should be an interesting spectacle because we will see two of the top scorers in the division go head-to-head in Burkardt and Kleindienst, with both having bagged 14 goals already.

They are the two figures that their teammates will look to for inspiration in a fixture which could have a lot riding on it come the end of the season. I think there is little to separate the two teams currently so I think we could see another score draw between them at Borussia Park.

Tim Kleindienst anytime goalscorer @ 8/5

Gladbach's towering striker has been outstanding for them this campaign and he will be desperate to get back amongst the goals after a two-game drought in the Bundesliga. Before that, the German international had scored in five consecutive matches.

Of his 14 goals in the top flight, half of them have come on home turf, so Borussia Park has been a happy hunting ground for him.

The 29-year-old will also be boosted by the fact that he has already scored against Mainz this season, bagging a quick-fire equaliser after Lainer's own goal put Die Nullfunfer ahead early in the second half of the reverse fixture.
