Borussia Dortmund take on VfL Bochum at Signal Iduna Park in the Bundesliga on Friday night (19:30, Sky Sports Mix), looking to bounce back from their heavy 5-1 defeat at VfB Stuttgart last time out.

The Black and Yellows are currently eighth in the table but they will want to change that when they face a struggling Bochum side. The visitors are winless after four matches but they did end their losing streak last week against fellow strugglers Holstein Kiel. Read on for my Borussia Dortmund vs Bochum prediction, including match odds and team news.

Borussia Dortmund vs Bochum Betting Tips

  • Borussia Dortmund and over 2.5 goals @ 8/15
  • Serhou Guirassy anytime goalscorer @ 4/5

Borussia Dortmund vs Bochum Odds

Dortmund are 2/9 to win this match, which gives them an implied probability of 81.8%. Bochum are 10/1 to pull off an upset and claim their first win of the season, giving them a theoretical chance of 9.1%. The draw is on offer at 11/2 (15.4%).

Both teams to score can be backed at 4/6 and over 2.5 goals is marketed at 1/3. Dortmund wingers Karim Adeyemi and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens have both scored twice in the Bundesliga so far, and they are priced at 11/8 and 15/8 respectively to score anytime on Friday night.

Team News

Dortmund boss Nuri Sahin only has the one injury concern heading into Friday and that is attacker Gio Reyna, who has missed the last two league matches due to a groin strain. Defenders Julian Ryerson and Ramy Bensebaini are both recovering from illness, so they too are doubts to feature on Friday.

The Black and Yellows otherwise have a clean bill of health, but after conceding five goals last time out, changes could be afoot. Donyell Malen was taken out for Serhou Guirassy last time out and because the latter scored a consolation goal against Stuttgart, he is likely to keep his place in the team.

Malen could perhaps be swapped with Felix Nmecha, which could see Marcel Sabitzer deployed deeper into midfielder next to Pascal Groß, or even Emre Can could come into the fold to offer a bit more structure in the middle of the park.

Adeyemi could face competition from Bynoe-Gittens for the left attacking slot but Sahin could also consider starting them both given they are the club's joint-top scorers in the league so far.

For Bochum, Bernardo and Ivan Ordets remain out of action due to injury, leaving the strugglers' defensive options quite light.

Borussia Dortmund and over 2.5 goals @ 8/15

As Dortmund are back at Signal Iduna Park on Friday, as well as the fact they are facing a team who haven't won a game in the league, it feels only right to back the hosts to win.

I remember catching Dortmund's win against Heidenheim a few weeks ago and I was very impressed with how they built up from the back and into the final third. Some of the patterns of play they put on show were very good to watch. This was in fact a home game, and we know how strong the Black and Yellows can be when playing in their iconic stadium.

After a very disappointing display last weekend, Sahin and his players will be desperate to deliver an instant response and they arguably couldn't ask for a better fixture right now than Bochum.

We may only be four games in but a run of that many matches without a win can be detrimental to the confidence of a team, and I think this is already showing with the visitors.

Three points are evading them for now but what's interesting is that they have only conceded the same amount of goals as their hosts at this stage of the campaign (seven). Of course, Dortmund have the quality to boost Bochum's tally so I think there will be a few goals on offer in this clash.

Over 2.5 goals has been a winning selection in half of both Dortmund and Bochum's Bundesliga fixtures in 2024/25, and so I think that is worth adding to boost the odds of a home victory.

Serhou Guirassy anytime goalscorer @ 4/5

It may not have been in the circumstance that he would've liked but it was good for forward Guirassy to open his league account for Dortmund last time out, and it kind of felt fitting that it came against his former employers.

That goal, albeit a consolation, will have given the Guinea international a huge confidence boost moving forward, and he will be relishing the opportunity to keep his place in the side and net his first in front of the home crowd at Signal Iduna Park.

And what better time to get it than when you're facing a side who can't buy a win at the moment. Guirassy demonstrated his quality at Stuttgart last season and it feels like it is only a matter of time before Dortmund start to see that level of player on a consistent basis in black and yellow.

By scoring in consecutive games, this could set the striker up to take up an even bigger role in Sahin's side, and in the long run, should aid them climb the table as they bid to compete for the league title once more.

So for that reason, I think Guirassy is worth backing to get on the scoresheet on Friday.
