The biggest game German football has to offer returns this weekend as Borussia Dortmund host Bayern Munich in a gargantuan fixture on Saturday night, with kick-off at 17:30. The winner will land a decisive blow in the title race, and the loser will lose more ground on league leaders Bayer Leverkusen. Below we have previewed the clash and come up with a couple of selections.

Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich Tips

  • Borussia Dortmund to win @ 3/1
  • Borussia Dortmund to win to nil @ 10/1

Team News

BVB may be without the duo of Emre Can and Marius Wolf heading into Der Klassiker. However, Mats Hummels and Marcel Sabitzer are expected to return to the starting XI against their former club.

Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel will be without the suspended Joshua Kimmich and the injured Matthijs de Ligt. Noussair Mazraoui missed the shock DFB-Pokal loss with illness and may also be out, while Dayot Upamecano has missed Bayern’s last four games due to a hamstring injury.

Match Odds

Borussia Dortmund are 3/1 to win this game on home soil, while a draw can be backed at 16/5. Bayern Munich are 8/11 favourites, while over 2.5 goals is 1/3. Meanwhile BTTS is 4/11.

Borussia Dortmund to win @ 3/1

I was relatively surprised when I saw the odds for this game. At home, Borussia Dortmund are 3/1 to simply win the match, but I see this one as a far more even match-up. Edin Terzic’s side have lost just one league match in 2023, and that was against Bayern Munich in April.

On home soil, they are remarkable. They’ve now gone 26 matches without defeat, a run at the Westfalenstadion that is their longest unbeaten stretch in 21 years. This Dortmund side is resolute, hard-working and has proved it can manage tight games, as we saw in their Champions League win over Newcastle United.

We also must take into consideration Bayern Munich’s shock DFB-Pokal loss to third division Saarbrücken. The German giants were humiliated by an injury-time goal, as their chances of a famous treble evaporated in early November. However, they are unbeaten in the Bundesliga, as are Dortmund. This has all the makings of a classic, but I’m banking on the home side keeping hold of their perfect home record at a long price.

Borussia Dortmund to win to nil @ 10/1

If we believe Dortmund will win this game, we can find some extraordinary value elsewhere. What BVB have built over the past two months has been an incredibly solid defence. In back-to-back Champions League matches they have kept clean sheets, against tough opposition in Newcastle and AC Milan.

They’ve also won their last two home matches, against Hofffenheim and Werder Bremen, by a scoreline of 1-0. Their backline will need to be on top form against one of the finest attacking outfits in Europe, but the 10/1 for them to win to nil is incredibly generous.
