After failing to win any of their last five matches in all competitions, Borussia Dortmund will look to return to winning ways when they host Mainz in the Bundesliga on Tuesday.

Edin Terzic's team have struggled of late and they will be desperate to return to winning ways in what is their final game before the Christmas break in the Bundesliga.

Mainz will have similar desires, though, as they are in the relegation zone, with only goal difference keeping them off the bottom of the table.

Borussia Dortmund vs Mainz Prediction

  • Borussia Dortmund to win to nil @ 2/1
  • Under 2.5 goals @ 13/8

Team news

Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels will be able to return to the starting XI after serving a suspension at the weekend, meaning Niklas Sule may make way in defence.

Julian Ryerson, Karim Adeyemi, Youssoufa Moukoko and Felix Nmecha are all still sidelined, but Marius Wolf recently returned to full fitness, and he will look to challenge Thomas Meunier for a starting spot at right-back.

Mainz coach Jan Siewert will be delighted to see the winter break on the horizon, with Robin Zentner, Anthony Caci, Leandro Barreiro, Joshua Guilavogui, Andreas Hanche-Olsen and Maxim Leitsch all out until at least the New Year.

However, Edimilson Fernandes and Silvan Widmer are hoping to feature against Dortmund after missing the last few weeks.

Match Odds

Even though their form has dipped in recent months, Dortmund are 1/2 to pick up all three points on Tuesday night. The draw is available at 18/5, while Mainz are 9/2 to win on their travels.

Dortmund forward Niclas Fullkrug is the favourite to score anytime at 23/20, while fellow striker Sebastian Haller is next in the market at 5/4.

Both teams to score is available at 8/15, while a high-scoring game is expected, with over 2.5 goals priced at 4/9.

Borussia Dortmund to win to nil @ 2/1

Dortmund's recent form has been disappointing, but things have not totally fallen apart at Signal Iduna Park.

Terzic's team qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League earlier this month and they will face PSV Eindhoven in the next round in 2024.

Even though they have not won any of their last five, they have drawn with Bayer Leverkusen, Paris Saint-Germain and Augsburg.

At home, they have only lost two of their 12 matches and they face a Mainz side who have not scored more than one goal in their previous five Bundesliga matches.

Under 2.5 goals @ 13/8

The market suggests this should be a high-scoring battle, but the value lies with the unders.

None of Mainz's last six games have contained over 2.5 goals and they have drawn four of their previous five on the road.

In their last three on their travels they only conceded one goal, so Mainz should be tough to break down in this midweek match.

Dortmund's players have not struggled in front of goal, but they will be fatigued after a busy few weeks and a 1-0 or 2-0 win will still be a fantastic result for them.
