Birmingham City are in a very comfortable position at the top of League 1. The Blues extended their gap at the summit to 12 points following their 1-0 victory over second-placed Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday. They have amassed 76 points so far which is a record at this stage of the season for a League 1 team. Their next encounter sees them travel to face Bolton Wanderers at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on Tuesday (19:45, Sky Sports+).

The Trotters have been improving under Steven Schumacher, winning three of the five matches that he has overseen in the league. They picked up a point on their last outing at Wrexham, and will face another tough test against the league leaders. Below you will find my Bolton vs Birmingham predictions, supported by the latest team news and match odds.

Bolton vs Birmingham Odds

Bolton have won their last three home games in the league and they are 11/4 to end Birmingham's 18-game unbeaten streak.

Three of Birmingham's past away trips in the third tier have ended in a stalemate, with the latest being a 0-0 at Reading. The draw is on offer at 12/5, which has an implied probability of 29.4%.

The Blues are 1/1 to come away with the three points, which offers good value because they have won eight of their 11 League 1 fixtures in 2025.

The visitors have kept five consecutive clean sheets in the league and they are 6/4 (40%) to shut out Bolton on Tuesday.

Team News

Bolton welcomed back Carlos Mendes Gomes back to the squad against Wrexham after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with an Achilles issue. His return gives Schumacher another attacking option but it looks like it may be a little while longer before he is ready to start games again.

The Trotters are continuing to monitor Chris Forino-Joseph, who has been out with a hamstring injury. He has been making appearances for the club's B team in preparation for a comeback.

However, Victor Adeboyejo and Kyle Dempsey are both expected to miss this fixture due to knee injuries. Defender Josh Dacres-Cogley is set for another reunion with his former club, with whom he spent six years as a professional.

For Birmingham, Scott Wright and Lee Buchanan are out for the rest of the season with knee injuries while Lyndon Dykes is sidelined with a calf problem. Jay Stansfield is likely to miss out again as he recovers from the issue he picked up in the Vertu Trophy semi-final match with Bradford City.

One-time Bolton loanee Keshi Anderson is also a doubt with a hamstring strain. Ethan Laird and Ryan Allsop picked up issues in Saturday's win over Wycombe so boss Chris Davies could also be forced to cope without the pair, who have been instrumental in 2025 so far.

Birmingham to win to nil @ 11/5

I foolishly backed Birmingham and both teams to score in their last two games against Wycombe and Leyton Orient, so I've been left with egg on my face as they have now made it five clean sheets in a row.

There I was thinking the calibre of their latest opponents would lead to goals at both ends, and yet they've been kept at bay. The Blues were helped with red cards in each of those outings at St Andrew's, so you can get 7/2 for there to be a red card in Horwich on Tuesday.

Birmingham have now conceded just four goals in their previous 18 matches in League 1, and 12 of that run have seen them win to nil. Bolton have been improving since Schumacher took the reins, but their next test is as tough as it gets.

The visitors are on course to smash Wolverhampton Wanderers' division record of 103 points from 2013/14, as well as Reading's EFL feat of 106 in the Championship in 2005/06.

They have 14 games left to attain the 31 points they need to make history, and you have to fancy them to accomplish this. They have been excellent throughout the campaign, and even when they haven't been at the top of their game, they've often still found ways to win.

Bolton will make this a difficult game for Davies and his players, but I'm expecting them to come through with another victory and clean sheet.

Under 2.5 goals @ 8/11

As much as Birmingham have been excellent this term, they have rarely thrashed teams like many outsiders would have expected. There have only been two occasions in which they have won by at least a three-goal cushion.

More often than not they win by a goal or two, mostly because they go in front and end up controlling games rather than putting them to bed. That doesn't mean they stop trying, some golden opportunities have been squandered by this team.

That's why I think under 2.5 goals is worth backing for this midweek clash. Each of Birmingham's last four appearances in League 1 produced two goals or less and I think we will see this trend continue against Bolton.
