Blackburn vs Sheffield Wednesday Prediction: Owls to grab the points

Blackburn Rovers have watched their hopes of making the Championship play-offs fade dramatically in recent weeks with a damaging run of defeats, and they must try to get back on track when Sheffield Wednesday visit Ewood Park on Tuesday evening (19:45, Sky Sports+).

Owen Beck has been ruled out for the remainder of the season for the home side, with Hayden Carter having also seemingly played his last football of 2024/25. On top of those absences, boss Valerien Ismael continues to operate without the likes of Scott Wharton, Harry Leonard, Andreas Weimann, Augustus Kargbo and Emmanuel Dennis.

Defender Max Lowe has been ruled out of the rest of Wednesday's season after limping out of the Sheffield derby in March, while Di'Shon Bernard will be missing until the autumn after suffering ACL damage in the 2-1 loss at West Brom in early February.

Stuart Armstrong returned for Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Hull, while Yan Valery was an unused substitute. Both had sat out the previous six weeks out with calf issues, and each could be considered for a start at Ewood Park.

Blackburn boss Ismael is still waiting for his maiden win after six games and any hopes of a play-off spot have all but disappeared after five straight losses.

The most recent of those was here on Friday night when Middlesbrough established a two-goal lead inside the opening 10 minutes and never looked back as the hosts only mustered two shots on target in 90 minutes.

Rovers have failed to find the net in three of their last four games.

Wednesday have won more games on the road (nine) than they have at Hillsborough (five) this season.

The Owls have won three of their last five away games, their only loss coming at title contenders Burnley.

They have won three of the last four meetings with Rovers, including this fixture last season and they are meeting their Lancashire hosts at a good time.

Frustration is sure to be building in the Blackburn camp given the run of poor results they are on.

They've got nine more cautions so far this season than Wednesday, with 80, and have also had one more red card compared to the Owls.
