Saturday sees two sides flirting dangerously with the Championship relegation zone go head-to-head as Blackburn host Plymouth at Ewood Park on Saturday afternoon (15:00).

The Pilgrims ran out comfortable 3-0 winners in the reverse fixture but may not find the same level of joy when they make the trip to Lancashire, although Rovers’ recent form may offer the chance of a point.

Team News

Blackburn manager John Eustace could bring goalkeeper Aynsley Pears back into the starting line-up after the 25-year-old missed Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Millwall through illness.

A knock picked up by Callum Britain in that game means that he may miss out on the matchday squad altogether, with Ben Chrisene the favourite to replace him on the right-hand side.

Argyle boss Ian Foster will have a full squad fit and ready for selection for Saturday’s encounter and he may wish to wring out the changes to freshen up a side who have won just once in their last eight games in all competitions.

The likes of Bali Mumba, Jordan Houghton and Mustapha Bundu all featured from the bench in their recent defeat to Sheffield Wednesday and could start on Saturday.

Match Odds

Rovers are the favourites to take all three points in this encounter at 4/5, while the Pilgrims can be backed at 16/5 to claim only their third away victory of the league season.

The draw provides odds of 3/1, while Blackburn’s Sammie Szmodics is the favourite to grab a goal at Ewood Park at any time at 13/10.

Draw @ 3/1

With both sides lying just two points above the bottom three in what is looking to be a tense battle to avoid relegation, the order of the day may be to avoid defeat rather than risk opening up to chase a victory.

The form of both Rovers and Plymouth would also suggest that a win for either is unlikely, with Blackburn winless in six league games - drawing four- and the Pilgrims registering just one victory across their last seven.

Eustace’s men have looked marginally better at home than on their travels having lost just one of their last six at Ewood Park, but four draws within this run highlights the difficulties that Rovers are having in seeing out results.

Draw at 3-1

Under 2.5 goals @ 11/10

Plymouth have failed to score in four of their last five games, with each of these fixtures ending in defeat.

While these losses may have been expected against the likes of promotion-chasing Leeds and Ipswich, last weekend’s defeat to fellow strugglers Sheffield Wednesday will have been difficult to stomach for the Home Park side.

Each of Blackburn’s last three games in all competitions at Ewood Park have seen no more than two goals scored in regulation time and this, combined with Argyle’s misfiring attack, could mean that a low-scoring affair is in the offing.

Under 2.5 goals at 11-10
