Football Bet of the Day: Both teams can bag in UCL opener

My football bet of the day for Wednesday, September 18 comes from the Uefa Champions League match-up at the Etihad Stadium between Manchester City and Inter Milan (20:00, live on TNT Sports 1).

The two teams will lock horns for the first time since the 2023 Champions League final - their only previous European encounter - when Rodri scored the decisive goal in Istanbul to help Pep Guardiola's side complete a historic treble.

City are the only side in the Premier League to boast a 100 per cent record after four matches, but their perfect start was under jeopardy for a short spell against Brentford on Saturday.

Guardiola's side found themselves a goal behind after just 22 seconds, courtesy of Yoane Wissa, before a brace from Erling Haaland got the Citizens back on track, and was ultimately the difference in a 2-1 victory.

City will be keen to start strongly in the newly-expanded Champions League, and they head into their midweek showdown having not lost any of their last 23 Champions League matches in 90 minutes.

The Citizens haven't looked as strong at the back as they have going forward, keeping just one clean sheet across their opening five matches in all competitions, and they're facing an Inter Milan side that have scored nine goals in their four outing this term, suggesting that they can trouble the City backline.

After beating Lecce and Atalanta by a combined score of 6-0, Inter were unable to claim their third successive Serie A victory last weekend, as they drew 1-1 against Monza.

Simone Inzaghi's team have only lost three of their last 20 Champions League encounters (in 90 minutes), and they'll be eager to avenge the 2023 final defeat to City come Wednesday night. However, the Italian giants have only started one of their last nine campaigns in the competition with a win.

Guardiola's side have been conceding goals in recent weeks, which bodes well for Inter, and I can see this being a closely-fought contest between two genuine contenders for European glory.

City's exceptional home form makes it difficult to back against them though, which is why I've opted for a City win and both teams to score - a bet that's landed in three of their four league games this term. In addition, Haaland is in frightening form, having scored nine goals in his last four appearances.
