Our Football Bet of the Day for Wednesday, May 15, comes from Manchester where the storm clouds are beginning to gather once more. The Old Trafford waterfall returned on Sunday afternoon against Arsenal, and the performance on the pitch didn’t do much to lift the spirits of the United faithful.

Now they will host Newcastle United in their final home game of the season, as Erik ten Hag looks to find some sort of form ahead of the FA Cup final later this month. Below you can find my Football Bet of the day which focuses on this clash between Man United and Newcastle.

Football Bet of the Day - Wednesday, May 15

  • Newcastle to win with -1 handicap @ 3/1

I am still not confident in backing Ten Hag’s Manchester United. There's something about them which does not fill me with confidence and although they improved against Arsenal, ultimately they still lost that game.

The Gunners didn’t come to Old Trafford to hammer United, but simply to get three points. They backed themselves defensively and ultimately got the job done, without too much fuss. United now haven’t scored in their last two outings and there is no guarantee that star man Bruno Fernandes will return in midfield.

With other defensive injuries, United may once again play Casemiro at centre-back, and if they do that then they could be in trouble. Alexander Isak is in red-hot form, and has now scored 10 goals in his last 10 league games. If recovers from illness, he, along with Anthony Gordon could tear this Manchester United team apart, while Eddie Howe has also been boosted by a few returning players.

Joelinton, Harvey Barnes and Kieran Trippier all came off the bench at the weekend and could come into the XI here, which would boost their chances massively. Ultimately, I think Newcastle are a far superior side to Manchester United this season. I think they’ve got a better manager, and are tactically better than the Red Devils right now.

I think they will be able to beat the home side fairly comfortably here, and think there is excellent value in backing them to win with a -1 handicap at a price of 3/1. United are all over the show at the minute, and I don’t think they have the confidence to beat Newcastle right now.

Amad Diallo was the bright spark at the weekend and should get more gametime, but the midfield and back line is looking so weak right now. Against a team chasing Europa League qualification, I think they may come under the cosh again.

Another miserable evening at Old Trafford awaits…

Newcastle-1
