Our Football Bet of the Day for Tuesday 12, March comes from the Champions League as Arsenal host Porto (20:00) in a bid to make it to the last eight. The Gunners lost 1-0 in Portugal as Galeno scored a wonderful injury-time goal to give Sérgio Conceição’s men the advantage as they head to London.

Football Bet of the Day - Tuesday 12, March

  • Arsenal to score over 3.5 goals @ 3/1

I believe in Mikel Arteta and this Arsenal team. The Premier League leaders, cor it feels a little odd writing that, will have been jumping for joy after the draw between Liverpool and Manchester City left them top of the tree.

But now their attention must turn to Europe as they target their first Champions League quarter-final since 2010. It’s been a hell of a wait for Arsenal fans, who saw their side lose seven consecutive last 16 ties, before dropping into the Europa League. Now back at the big time, and with the best team they have had for nearly two decades, they have a great chance of going deep into this competition.

However, they do have work to do, and they will need the Emirates to be on top form if they are going to overturn the one-goal deficit. They are also facing a top quality Porto side who have been in excellent form of late. Led by Pepe, they’ve kept back-to-back clean sheets in the league, including a whopping 5-0 win over title rivals Benfica.

They also beat Arsenal with that dramatic late winner three weeks ago, and have every chance at making it through this tie. But I just feel Arsenal will be too strong. This is a side that has scored more goals than any other team in the Premier League this season (70).

They are scoring on average 2.5 goals per game across the league season, and have hit the net 23 times in their last five league matches. They can score goals at will at this moment in time and with Kai Havertz and Declan Rice finding their scoring boots at the weekend, they don’t have one key attacking force to try and stop.

It has made them so difficult to play against, and their incredible goalscoring rate has taken them to the top of the league. Now, against Porto, I expect them to play at breakneck speed, and break Porto’s resolve in the process. Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard should be able to tear the Portuguese side apart, roared on by a passionate Emirates crowd.

This is no longer a library, or an easy place to go. With this young team, it’s now very difficult to get anything against Arsenal. The price of 3/1 for them to score four goals on home soil is well worth backing in my eyes.
