Football Bet of the Day: Utrecht and Sparta Rotterdam can deliver a thriller

There is a huge game in the race for European football in the Netherlands on Thursday night (20:00) as FC Utrecht host Sparta Rotterdam at Stadion Galgonwaard for the Europa Conference League play-off semi-final.

Just a single point separated the two sides at the conclusion of the Eredivisie campaign and so this looks to be a fascinating contest. The visitors finished the season the more stronger, beating Utrecht at this ground less than two weeks ago. Sparta Rotterdam head into this crunch clash having won four of their final five matches in the regular season, while Utrecht managed to win just two. These two teams look very closely matched because not only were they separated by a point, their goal tallies were just as tight.

The hosts scored 49 goals to Sparta's 51. Utrecht conceded 47 to the visitors' 48. All evidence would point to this game of football being played out like a chess match.

Momentum is with the visitors, but the home advantage cannot be discounted, nor the two teams' similar stats from this campaign. That is why the selection I like the look of for Thursday's football bet of the day is the double chance market of Utrecht or Sparta Rotterdam and both teams to score.

It does feel like a tough one to call because in the head-to-head, both sides won one of the meetings this season, and interestingly they both prevailed when the visiting side. Considering Sparta Rotterdam won at this ground recently, they won't be fazed by playing this massive semi-final away from home.

One of their players who will be looking forward to this clash is Camiel Neghli, who has scored in both meetings with Utrecht this term.

In terms of wins this campaign, Utrecht registered 13 to Sparta Rotterdam's 14, so that is why I am confident that one of them will emerge as the winners inside 90 minutes. I have no doubt that both teams will score, either given how similar their records have been this year.
