Two weeks ago, we visited Major League Soccer for our football bet of the day, and it paid off as DC United and the New York Red Bulls played out a high-scoring contest to land a 7/4 over 3.5 goals selection.

For my next football bet of the day on Sunday, May 26, we return to MLS, but this time to Canada as CF Montreal and Nashville SC face off at Saputo Stadium.

Football Bet of the Day - Sunday, May 26

  • Over 3.5 total goals in CF Montreal vs Nashville Soccer Club @ 9/4

Montreal finished two points outside the Eastern Conference playoffs last year but have endured a pretty dismal start to the current campaign, picking up just 12 points from 13 games to sit third bottom.

The Impact are winless in their last six MLS matches and have lost their last three to pile the pressure on head coach Laurent Courtois.

Nashville haven't fared much better this season, sitting just two places and three points better off than Montreal, though the managerless side have won two of their last four games, both of which were achieved with former boss Gary Smith before his departure.

Interim head coach Rumba Munthali oversaw a 1-1 draw with an understrength Atlanta United last time out, making Sunday's contest an even bigger one.

Montreal and Nashville have something else in common apart from being struggling outfits - both clubs have been involved in games with plenty of goals this season.

There have been 48 goals (17 for, 31 against) in Montreal's 13 MLS matches so far, which averages out at 3.7 per game, while Nashville's 13 league outings have produced 37 goals (17 for, 20 against), averaging out at 2.8 per game.

Football Bet of the Day Sunday May 26 2024 - Over 3.5 total goals in Montreal vs Nashville at 9-4

Nashville's average creeps up for away games, with 12 (two for, 10 against) from four averaging out at three per game, while Montreal's four home matches have produced exactly 16 goals (seven for, nine against) - exactly four per game.

Montreal's last four contests in MLS have been particularly high-scoring, with all of them ending in at least four goals, and only Inter Miami (10) have seen over 3.5 goals land more times than their tally of eight in the Eastern Conference.

Five of Nashville's league games have seen at least four goals scored, including their last meeting with Montreal, which they won 4-1 at Geodis Park on May 5.

With both sides looking for a win to kickstart their respective campaigns, we could be in for more thrills on Sunday.
