Football Bet of the Day: High-scoring affair expected at Edgeley Park

The international break may be here but there is an exciting clash coming our way in League 1 on Saturday (15:00, Sky Sports+) as Stockport County welcome Wrexham to Edgeley Park. The two promoted teams from League 2 last season are in a good position to achieve promotion from the third tier, with the Hatters sixth in the table, while Wrexham are third.
This is all set up to be a captivating affair this weekend, and one that I think will deliver in terms of entertainment value. That is why my football bet of the day comes from this fixture, and you will find it below.
Football Bet of the Day - Saturday, November 16
- Bet Builder - Both teams to score, over 3.5 goals and Louie Barry anytime goalscorer @ 9/2
Stockport County vs Wrexham Odds
These two sides were excellent in the fourth tier last year and they have made the transition up to League 1 seamlessly as they are both in the top six after the opening three months of the campaign.
It's a credit to the owners of both clubs, but also the coaching staff and players on both sides. They have both enjoyed impressive rises from the National League in recent years and it doesn't look like their journeys are going to come to an end any time soon.
Of course promotion this year will be harder for these two teams because of the nature of this division and the teams that they are up against to reach the Championship. You have free-spending Birmingham City who have looked good out on the pitch, but yet find themselves in second currently because of two consecutive draws - against Mansfield Town (another promoted side) and Northampton Town.
Anyway, that's enough admiration of the two teams' rises, now onto the bet builder. It kicks off with the simple both teams to score. It's a popular market when it comes to football matches, and it is also heavily included in punters' bet builders.
Due to how well these sides have been performing in the league this campaign, I think there will be no shortage of goals on Saturday, and I think we will witness goals at both ends.
BTTS has been a winning selection in eight of Stockport's 15 matches in League 1 this season, but surprisingly just three of them come on home soil. This doesn't concern me because they are facing a side who have scored 22 goals already this term.
Wrexham may have only seen goals scored at both ends in two of their seven away matches, but their attack is going to cause a lot of problems for the Hatters, and vice versa.
Four points separate the two teams currently and Wrexham have the opportunity to leapfrog Birmingham this weekend, while Stockport can move within to one point of the Red Dragons and further cementing their place in the play-off places.
The next leg is for there to be over 3.5 goals in the match. It may feel brave due to the stats that I've just mentioned, but I have a strong feeling we could be treated to a cracker at Edgeley Park.
Stockport have seen at least four goals scored in four of their eight matches at home in 2024/25, including their last three against Reading,Wycombe Wanderers and Bolton Wanderers.
The Hatters beat the Royals 4-1 before getting hammered 5-0 by the Chairboys, only to then inflict that same scoreline on the Trotters. A trend has formed in SK3 over the past few weeks, and I fancy it to continue this weekend when high-flying Wrexham come to town.
It's also worth noting that over 3.5 goals was a winning selection in Wrexham's last away trip in League 1 - a 2-2 draw at Charlton Athletic.
The bet builder is rounded off with a goalscorer, and who else could I pick apart from Louie Barry? The Stockport loan star has adapted brilliantly to playing at a higher level this term, and so have his teammates.
He's taking all the plaudits at the moment though and rightly so because he is the joint-top scorer in the division with 10 goals, alongside Peterborough United's Kwame Poku.
He has scored four goals in his last three home matches in the league, and so he will be heading into the weekend full of confidence. Six of his 10 goals this term have come at Edgeley Park, so it looks like this is where he prefers to do his hunting.
I'm expecting him to play a starring role once again as his side prepares for one of their biggest matches of the season to date, and I fancy him to extend his scoring streak on home soil.
