Western Sydney Wanderers vs Auckland Prediction: More head-to-head hurt for WSW

Western Sydney Wanderers' awkward start to the 2025/26 Australian A-League Men's season continued last Saturday as they were held to a goalless draw at home by Brisbane Roar. Alen Stajcic's side have only won two of their first eight games, and they start this week eighth in the 12-team table, eight points behind Friday's visitors to CommBank Stadium, Auckland FC (second), who made it back-to-back wins with a 2-1 success at Central Coast Mariners last week.
Below are my Western Sydney Wanderers vs Auckland predictions, supported by all the latest team news and match odds, ahead of Friday's meeting in Sydney (09:00 GMT, TNT Sports 1).
Western Sydney Wanderers vs Auckland Betting Tips
- Match Result And Total Goals Over/Under 3.5 - Auckland & Under 3.5 @ 12/5
- Booking Points Over/Under +37.5 - Under 37.5 @ 5/6

Team News
Alex Gersbach (unspecified) will miss a third consecutive match for Western Sydney Wanderers, who are otherwise at full strength for Friday's fixture.
For the second week running, Auckland have a full squad available, with no injuries or suspensions preventing any player from featuring in Sydney.
Skipper Hiroki Sakai, who made his return from a hamstring injury in last Friday's 2-1 win at Central Coast Mariners, could start at CommBank Stadium in place of fellow right-back Callan Elliot.
Western Sydney Wanderers vs Auckland Predicted Lineups

- Auckland: Woud; Sakai, Hall, Girdwood-Reich, De Vries; Brimmer, Verstraete; Rogerson, Brook, Randall; Cosgrove
Western Sydney Wanderers vs Auckland Odds
The Wanderers, who have never beaten Auckland (D1, L2), are 6/4, or a 40% chance, to record a first-ever victory over the Black Knights, with the visitors available to back at the same price. The draw, meanwhile, is offered at 9/4.
Betfred are offering four Price Boosts on this game, including Both Teams to Score, Both Teams 4+ Corners & Both Teams 20+ Booking Pts at 7/1 (was 6/1).
Western Sydney Wanderers vs Auckland Stats
- Seven of AKL's eight games this season have gone under 3.5 goals (same for WSW)
- All three competitive H2Hs have featured two or fewer goals
- AKL won last season's corresponding fixture 1-0 (also won 25/26 reverse fixture 1-0 in October)
- Six of AKL's eight matches have produced 30 or fewer booking pts
Match Result And Total Goals Over/Under 3.5 - Auckland & Under 3.5 @ 12/5
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I landed 11/8 and 13/10 winners in my Central Coast Mariners-Auckland preview last weekend, for Auckland to win and under 3.5 goals, and Sam Cosgrove to score anytime, respectively.
I'm going with an Auckland victory and under 3.5 goals again this Friday, at an even better price of 12/5.
Seven of Auckland's eight league games this season have featured three or fewer goals, and four of their five wins have gone under 3.5 strikes.
The Wanderers have also seen seven of their eight matches end with three or fewer goals, and all three of their defeats, including October's 1-0 loss at Auckland's Go Media Stadium, have gone under 2.5.
Last season's corresponding fixture, played in January of this year, saw the Black Knights score the only goal of the game in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time, while in April's reverse fixture, the sides played out a 1-1 draw.
Only Macarthur FC (four), who have played a game fewer, have scored fewer goals this term than the Wanderers (six), while only Brisbane Roar (three), Melbourne City - who have played a match fewer - and Sydney FC (both five) have conceded fewer goals than Auckland, so an away win and under 3.5 goals looks like the best bet here.

Booking Points Over/Under +37.5 - Under 37.5 @ 5/6
The first-ever competitive fixture between the Wanderers and Auckland, on January 26 of this year, saw just 20 booking points recorded, with both sides receiving 10 for a single yellow. That was the same for October's head-to-head, while in April, no player went into the book.
Six of Auckland's eight league games this season have produced 30 or fewer booking points, with their two New Zealand derbies against Wellington Phoenix proving to be the exception to the rule so far.
The Wanderers, on the other hand, have seen seven of their eight matches go over the 37.5 booking points threshold, but crucially, the only one that didn't involved Auckland.
