Sydney vs Melbourne City Prediction: City silenced in Sydney

Neither Sydney FC nor Melbourne City were in action over the weekend, but while the Sky Blues held onto third spot in the Australian A-League Men's, City fell to 10th following Wellington Phoenix's 2-0 victory over Perth Glory, although they can move up to seventh on Tuesday by beating Ufuk Talay's men at Allianz Stadium (08:00 GMT, TNT Sports 3).
Below are my Sydney vs Melbourne City predictions, alongside all the latest team news and match odds.

Team News
Joe Lolley remains sidelined for Sydney due to an ankle injury, but otherwise, Talay has a full complement available.
Joe Lacey, who was on the bench for the Sky Blues' 2-2 draw with Melbourne Victory on March 7, has been omitted from the extended squad, but Jordan Courtney-Perkins, Corey Hollman and Pat Wood have all been named in the long list.
Melbourne City, meanwhile, are missing Mathew Leckie (hip), Andrew Nabbout (calf), Alessandro Lopane (quad) and Takeshi Kanamori (knee), but German Ferreyra and Lawrence Wong have been included in Aurelio Vidmar's extended squad.
Sydney vs Melbourne City Predicted Lineups
- Sydney: Devenish-Meares; R. Grant, Popovic, A. Grant, Garuccio; Oken-Engstler, Arslan; Quintal, Campuzano, Quispe; Stamatelopoulos
- Melbourne City: Beach; Shillington, Ferreyra, Souprayen, Behich; Atkinson, Teague, Kuen; Younis, Memeti, Arzani
Sydney, who haven't beaten Melbourne City in the league since December 2022, drawing three and losing five of their eight head-to-heads since, are 6/5 favourites to claim all three points on Tuesday, implying a 45.5% probability of success.
The visitors, meanwhile, are 9/5, or a 35.7% chance, to triumph at Allianz Stadium for the second season running, following their 3-2 win there in March 2025, while another stalemate between the two teams, who drew 0-0 at AAMI Park on January 3, is priced at 12/5.
Sydney vs Melbourne City Stats
- SYD are unbeaten in their last four games (W2, D2)
- MCY have lost three of their last five ALM matches (D2), including the last two
- Only AKL (6.5) are averaging more corners taken p/g at home than SYD (6.33)
Match Result - Sydney @ 6/5
It's been two months since City's last league win, a 2-1 home success over Auckland FC on January 16. Since that victory over the Black Knights, Vidmar's side have lost to Macarthur FC (6-2), Melbourne Victory (1-3) and Auckland (3-0), as well as drawn away to Wellington Phoenix (2-2) and Western Sydney Wanderers (1-1).
City were also dumped out of the AFC Champions League Elite earlier this month, drawing 1-1 with Buriram United over two legs before losing out to the Thai club on penalties.
Their last away win in the league was a 1-0 at Newcastle Jets on December 6, and only Wellington Phoenix (10), who have played a game fewer, and Western Sydney Wanderers (eight), have picked up fewer points on their travels than City (11).
Sydney, meanwhile, are unbeaten in their last four matches, drawing at home to Auckland (1-1) and Melbourne Victory (2-2) either side of 1-0 wins against Brisbane Roar (H) and Wellington Phoenix (A).
The Sky Blues have a dreadful recent record in this fixture, but there is a great opportunity for them to end their rotten run against City on Tuesday, and I'm backing them to take advantage of the current uncertainty in the visitors' ranks.

Most Corners - Sydney @ 11/10
Only Auckland (6.5) are averaging more corners taken per home game this season than Sydney (6.33), who have topped the corner count in four of their nine matches at Allianz Stadium and conceded, on average, 5.67 corners per game on home soil.
City, meanwhile, are averaging 4.9 corners taken per away game, and 4.8 corners conceded.
Vidmar's men have lost the corner count four times away from home in the 2025/26 ALM campaign, including last time out at Auckland (9-7).
Sydney have taken the most corners in the last two regular-season home meetings.
