Victory for the Newcastle Jets against Brisbane Roar on Saturday would take Mark Milligan's side above Auckland FC at the top of the Australian A-League Men's, but the Black Knights can reclaim the lead a few hours later with a win over Perth Glory at HBF Park (10:45 GMT, TNT Sports 3).

Auckland have been the ALM's most consistent side since the start of last season, winning the 2024/25 Premier's Plate and topping the 2025/26 table after the first 14 rounds of fixtures.

The Black Knights have wobbled post-Christmas, winning just one of their five games this calendar year (D2, L2), and recording just a single shutout in that run, most unusual for a side renowned for its defensive solidity.

However, I don't think Auckland have suddenly become a bad team, and Saturday's trip to Perth represents a good opportunity to get back to winning ways against a side that have lost five of their last seven games, including their last two.

Glory are nine points behind Auckland, having won five, drawn one and lost eight of their first 14 matches, and only Central Coast Mariners (six), who have played a game fewer, have picked up fewer points at home than Griffiths' team (seven).

Perth beat Auckland 1-0 at HBF Park in last season's corresponding fixture, but their goalscorer last January, Jaylan Pearman, now resides in England with Queens Park Rangers, and they head into Saturday's game having blanked in a 1-0 loss at Western Sydney Wanderers last weekend.

I've got the visitors to win this one, and we can boost the odds by adding in under 3.5 total goals, which has landed in 79% of Auckland's league matches this season, and 71% of Perth's.

The two previous head-to-heads have ended 1-0, both in the direction of the home side.
