Team News

Melbourne Victory's off-season signings included Juan Mata, Keegan Jelacic, Sebastian Esposito, Jason Davidson and Denis Genreau - all five are in Arthur Diles' squad for Saturday's game against Auckland.

Brendan Hamill (knee) and Joshua Rawlins (suspended) are unavailable, though.

Football Odds

Nando Pijnaker and Felipe Gallegos (both unspecified) are out injured for Auckland, who could hand debuts to Jake Girdwood-Reich and Oliver Sail. Lachlan Brook and Sam Cosgrove could make their league debuts for the Black Knights after featuring in their run to the Australia Cup semi-finals.

Melbourne Victory vs Auckland Predicted Lineups

  • Melbourne Victory: Duncan; Inserra, Roderick, Jackson, Clarismario; D'Arrigo, Valadon; Genreau, Grimaldi, Jelacic; Vergos
  • Auckland: Woud; Sakai, Hall, Girdwood-Reich, De Vries; Rogerson; Vestraete, Brimmer, Francois; Randall, May

Melbourne Victory vs Auckland Odds

Victory finished 10 points behind Auckland in last season's ALM table, yet Diles' side are 13/10 favourites to secure all three points on Saturday, implying a 43.5% probability of success, while Steve Corica's Black Knights are 9/5 (35.7%) to win in Melbourne.

The draw is priced at 11/5, both teams to score at 8/13, and over 2.5 total goals at 4/5.

Melbourne Victory vs Auckland Stats

  • Rogerson (AKL) scored in his side’s last trip to AAMI Park (1-0 win)
  • Under 2.5 goals landed in all four H2Hs last season
  • Auckland (57%) were second in the 24/25 ALM under 2.5 goals table

Anytime Goalscorer - Logan Rogerson (AKL) @ 3/1

Auckland winger Logan Rogerson enjoyed a breakout season in the ALM in 2024/25, scoring nine goals in 28 appearances (including play-offs) for the Black Knights.

The 27-year-old, who hadn’t played in the competition since netting twice in eight Wellington Phoenix outings in the 2017/18 campaign, played an integral role in Auckland’s first-place finish, also registering a couple of assists.

He was particularly important after the turn of the year, with seven of his strikes coming in 2025.

Today's Football Fixtures

Rogerson’s final goal of last season came against this weekend’s opponents, Victory, in the first leg of their play-off semi-final tie. He scored the only goal of the game at AAMI Park, but Victory turned things around in the second leg, winning 2-0 at Go Media Stadium to advance to the Grand Final.

The New Zealand international is already off the mark this term, netting Auckland’s second in a 4-0 win at Gold Coast Knights in the Australia Cup round of 32 on July 28.

At 3/1, implying a 25% probability of success, he looks a good bet to strike anytime on Saturday, having averaged a goal every 3.2 games last season.

Total Goals - Under 2.5 @ 10/11

Backing under 2.5 goals between Auckland and Victory was a nice little earner last season. There were two or fewer goals scored in all four meetings between the two teams, which all took place this calendar year.

The Black Knights and the Boys in Blue played out a goalless draw at Go Media Stadium on New Year’s Day, before more than three months later, on April 19, the New Zealand side went to AAMI Park and won 2-0.

The third and fourth head-to-heads took place in the aforementioned Finals Series, with Victory responding to a 1-0 first-leg defeat by winning 2-0 in the return fixture.

So, a total of five goals were scored in the four matches between Auckland and Victory last season, an average of 1.25 per game.

Only Melbourne City (62%) saw a higher percentage of their 2024/25 ALM contests finish with under 2.5 goals than Auckland (57%), while Victory (50%) were joint-third, so backing two or fewer strikes looks like the smart play on Saturday, particularly as this is both teams’ opening fixture.
