Auckland FC and Melbourne City experienced contrasting fortunes in their respective rivalry games last weekend, with the former thrashing Wellington Phoenix 5-0 in the 'Kiwi Clasico', and the latter losing 3-1 to Melbourne Victory in the Melbourne derby.

The two clubs meet on Saturday (04:00 GMT, TNT Sports 1) at Go Media Stadium, and ahead of the action, you can read my Auckland vs Melbourne City predictions, supported by all the latest team news and match odds, below.

Team News

Oli Sail (knee) remains sidelined for Auckland, but head coach Steve Corica is boosted by the return of seven-goal striker Sam Cosgrove, who served a one-match suspension last weekend.

Football Odds

Mathew Leckie (hip), Andrew Nabbout (calf) and Takeshi Kanamori (knee) are still in the Melbourne City treatment room, but Aurelio Vidmar can select Elbasan Rashani for the first time since December 23, following the Kosovan's return from a hamstring injury.

Auckland vs Melbourne City Predicted Lineups

  • Auckland: Woud; Sakai, Hall, Girdwood-Reich, De Vries; Verstraete, Gallegos; Randall, Brook, May; Cosgrove
  • Melbourne City: Beach; Atkinson, Ferreyra, Souprayen, Behich; Lopane, Teague, Kuen; Memeti, Caputo, Younis

Auckland vs Melbourne City Odds

Auckland, who won last season's corresponding fixture 3-0 in January 2025, are 10/11 favourites to triumph on Saturday, implying a 52.4% probability of success, while Melbourne City are 13/5, or a 27.8% chance, to claim a first away win in the ALM since December 6; the draw is offered at 23/10.

Auckland vs Melbourne Victory Stats

  • AKL won last season's corresponding fixture 3-0 (Jan 2025)
  • MCY are winless in their last four games (D2, L2)
  • Cosgrove (AKL) has scored three goals in his last six apps (seven in 17 this season)

Match Result & Total Goals Over/Under 3.5 - Auckland & Under 3.5 @ 8/5

City came from a goal down to beat Auckland 2-1 in Melbourne last month, but since that AAMI Park victory, Vidmar's side have failed to collect maximum points in the ALM, losing 6-2 at Macarthur FC and 3-1 to Melbourne Victory either side of draws at Wellington Phoenix (2-2) and Western Sydney Wanderers (1-1).

Auckland's defeat to City on January 16 was the first of a three-game winless run as they followed up with a 2-2 draw at home to Central Coast Mariners and a 2-1 loss at Perth Glory, but the Black Knights are now unbeaten in their last three matches, beating Sydney FC 1-0 at home and drawing 1-1 at the same opposition before thrashing Wellington Phoenix 5-0 last weekend.

Today's Football Fixtures

With Cosgrove back from suspension, Corica's side are at full strength again, and they should be full of confidence after their Kiwi Clasico win that cost Nix head coach Giancarlo Italiano his job.

City, on the other hand, are still reeling from their Melbourne derby defeat, and are likely to be bereft of confidence.

I'll back a home win here, and add in under 3.5 goals, as 78% of Auckland's league games this season have seen three or fewer goals, ranking them fourth for this statistic, while City are joint-sixth with 67%.

Anytime Goalscorer - Sam Cosgrove (AKL) @ 6/4

Cosgrove failed to fire in last month's reverse meeting, but he scored his sixth and seventh goals of the season in his next three games before picking up a fifth yellow card of the campaign against Sydney FC, a booking which incurred a one-match ban.

After having to sit out last week's win at Wellington Phoenix, the 29-year-old should be well rested ahead of Saturday's clash with City, and he'll be eager to add Vidmar's side to his list of victims this term.

Only teammate Jesse Randall, Newcastle Jets striker Lachlan Rose and Nix attacker Ifeanyi Eze (all eight) have scored more goals in the ALM this season than Cosgrove, who will sense vulnerabilities in a City defence which has shipped 12 goals across the last four games.
