Atletico Madrid will look to get back to winning ways in La Liga when they welcome Rayo Vallecano to Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Thursday (20:30, Premier Sports 1). Diego Simeone's side were stunned by a 1-0 defeat at Las Palmas on Saturday but they have an excellent home record, with just one defeat in 16 fixtures.

Angel Correa returned from his suspension to make a cameo for Atletico at Las Palmas last time out and he will be knocking on Simeone's door for a start on Thursday.

Rodrigo De Paul and Samu Lino were named in the squad on Saturday despite being considered injury doubts, so that has given Simeone a huge boost for the final weeks of the campaign.

After losing their last game, the head coach may be tempted to make some changes against Rayo Vallecano and Antoine Griezmann is one who will pushing for an opportunity.

Rayo are still having to deal with injuries to Sergio Camello, Jonathan Montiel and Abdul Mumin, and all three are set to miss out again.

The reverse fixture with Rayo ended in a 1-1 draw back in September and the stalemate is on offer at 3/1 on this occasion. The visitors are 11/2 to come away with the three points, which is likely due to the fact that Atleti have just one defeat here, while Rayo have one win in nine fixtures.

Atletico's home form has been strong in 2024/25 with 37 points out of a possible 48. The Rojiblancos rank third in the La Liga home table, on the same amount of points as league leaders Barcelona, but three behind cross-city rivals Real Madrid.

Simeone's side have only been beaten at the Metropolitano once in the top flight, which came at the hands of Barca, but they have taken points in every other game here.

This should serve them well when they face a Rayo side who have just one win in their last nine attempts in the league. They come to Madrid off the back of two losses and I think this streak will extend on Thursday as Atleti will look for an immediate response after what happened in Gran Canaria.

Rayo can play their part in this fixture, though, so I'm adding BTTS to the home win. Three of the hosts' last four matches have produced goals at both ends, while BTTS has struck in two of the visitors' previous three away trips in La Liga.

Julian Alvarez is Atletico's top scorer in the league this term with 14 goals to his name, as he is having a very impressive debut campaign for the Colchoneros. The Argentina international has scored 43% (6/14) of his haul at the Metropolitano with a brace from the penalty spot on his last appearance here against bottom-of-the-table Real Valladolid.

The former Manchester City man has three goals in as many games coming into this clash, so he will be full of confidence against a side who are struggling to put wins on the board.
