Aston Villa evidently need to stage a comeback of epic proportions when they host PSG on Tuesday night. Their late concession in the French capital last week means that they are 3-1 down heading to Villa Park, where they will hope to overturn that two-goal deficit.

Below you can find my Aston Villa vs PSG Bet Builder Tips, with the teams set to collide at 20:00, live on Amazon Prime.

Aston Villa to win

If you’ve followed my tips for a while, you know I am a big advocate of something called ‘game state’. This means we analyse the current state of the game, and can be particularly helpful in finding value especially in these European matches with a second leg.

Although I think PSG are the better team on paper, this is going to be a historic night at Villa Park and so I think we should back Villa to win. The current game state, which has them two goals down, means that they simply have to come out and attack the 90 minutes to have any chance of progressing, and I think the crowd will play a massive part on Tuesday night.

Aston Villa vs PSG Stats

  • Over 1.5 first-half goals has landed in four of Villa and PSG's CL games this season
  • Both teams scored before half-time in last week's first leg
  • Marcus Rashford has eight goal contributions since joining Villa

I like the position of backing Villa to win for several reasons, but one of them being that this result may also suit PSG. If they are 2-1 down in the last ten minutes, the French champions are not going to be chasing a goal - instead they will have their backs against the wall hoping to hold on and make it through to the semi-finals. Game state - it’s just so important. There’s a chance that PSG strike first and blow Villa away, but I think we are going to see a belting tie and an enthralling 90 minutes.

I’m going to back Villa to win in 90 minutes, but it may not be enough to take them through.

BTTS

I’m also more than happy to back both teams to find the net in this one, as they did in the first leg. We saw a very different Villa performance at the Parc des Princes, where they tried to be defensively compact and strike on the break. It worked as Morgan Rogers scored the opener, but they then couldn’t hold onto their lead.

They are going to be far more expansive on home soil given they have to score at least twice to stay in the tie. Ollie Watkins and Marco Asensio may start to provide more attacking thrust, as Unai Emery looks to get his former club on the back foot early on.

Aston Villa vs PSG Odds

The issue Villa face is that this PSG side are so dangerous on the break. With the pace of Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele, they can counter-attack with great effectiveness, and I don’t see them failing to score under the lights. PSG have scored 80 goals in 28 league matches this term, and only Liverpool have stopped them scoring since December 6. Both teams should score.

Marcus Rashford to score or assist

Finally, let’s back Marcus Rashford to find the net or bag an assist against PSG. He’s currently scored three and assisted five since joining Villa in January and has led the line for Emery in the last two games. There’s a chance he may be moved to the left to accomodate Watkins up top, but I actually think that he is more effective from that position.

Rashford has haunted PSG before, for Manchester United, and he will fancy his chances of making his mark on this massive occasion. I think he can get a goal or an assist in a high-scoring encounter.
