Arsenal return to the Champions League for the first time in six years, and they begin this season’s campaign against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday night (20:00) at the Emirates.

Last year’s second-place finish ensured a return to UEFA’s top competition for the Gunners, while PSV toppled Rangers in a playoff clash to make it to the group stages.

Arsenal vs PSV Prediction

  • Arsenal to win and both teams to score @ 7/4
  • Gabriel Jesus to score anytime @ 13/10

Team News

Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny and Jurrien Timber all remain absent for the hosts, while Gabriel Martinelli tweaked his hamstring in the 1-0 victory over Everton at the weekend.

Aaron Ramsdale is expected to come into the starting XI after being rested on Sunday, and Gabriel Jesus could be handed his first start of the season here.

As for the visitors, Noa Lang was forced off after 11 minutes in PSV’s 4-0 triumph over NEC Nijmegen at the weekend and has subsequently emerged as a doubt for this tie.

He will be joined on the treatment table by Armando Obispo, Fredrik Oppegard and Mauro Junior.

Arsenal to win and both teams to score @ 7/4

I’m expecting plenty of goals on Wednesday night – all but one of PSV’s last eight competitive matches have produced more than 3.5 goals with 33 goals scored in total.

The same can be said for Arsenal – their first three home league games of the season have produced 11 goals with Mikel Arteta’s side failing to keep a clean sheet against Manchester United, Nottingham Forest or Fulham.

I think ultimately, Arsenal will have too much quality for their Dutch opponents, but backing both teams to find the scoresheet could be the way to go here.

Gabriel Jesus to score anytime @ 13/10

I’m expecting the Brazilian striker to lead the line for Arsenal, and the former Manchester City man seems to come alive on these European nights.

The 26-year-old has played a total of 38 Champions League matches in his career, and returned a very respectable 20 goals and five assists.

He scored a fantastic goal against Manchester United in his last appearance at the Emirates, and I fancy him to be amongst the goals for the Gunners here.
