Arminia Bielefeld vs Stuttgart Prediction: Big shock in cup final?

Arminia Bielefeld have already written one of the stories of the season in Germany and they will look to round off their season by winning the DFB-Pokal final against Stuttgart on Saturday in Berlin (19:00, Premier Sports 2).
Arminia have won the third tier of German football this term and will be playing in 2.Bundesliga next season, but they could make history on Saturday if they can get over the line in the cup. As well as the glory, there’s a place in the Europa League at stake, and below you can find my Arminia Bielefeld vs Stuttgart predictions.

Team News
Michel Kniat had to name an incredibly strong side at the weekend as his Arminia outfit wrapped up their season with a win over Waldhof Mannheim that guaranteed them top spot.
The only real dilemma facing Kniat ahead of the final is whether to stick with Christopher Lannert or recall Felix Hagmann at right-back. Hagmann played against Bayern Leverkusen in that terrific win and it feels like he will get the nod despite Lannert’s decent showings of late. Marius Worl will hope to have an impact in the final third while Noah Sarenren Bazee scored the winner last time out in that 1-0 win and will hope for another key moment this weekend from the wing.
Arminia Bielefeld vs Stuttgart Stats
- Arminia Bielefeld have beaten four Bundesliga teams to reach this final
- They are unbeaten in their last 13 matches
- Stuttgart finished ninth in the Bundesliga
For Stuttgart, there is a decision to be made up front for Sebastian Hoeness. The Stuttgart boss may choose to leave Ermedin Demirovic on the bench despite his 15 goal season, given both Nick Woltemade and former Brighton man Deniz Undav found the net against RB Leipzig last weekend.
He could also bring defensive duo Pascal Stenzel and Finn Jeltsch back into the mix, although he will be without midfield cog Angelo Stiller, who will miss this game with a persistent ankle issue.
Arminia Bielefeld vs Stuttgart Odds
Arminia Bielefeld have been priced up at a massive 6/1 to win this game in 90 minutes, because of the two leagues between the two sides, while Stuttgart are the short-priced 4/9 favourites to secure the win. A draw can be backed at 18/5 while Stuttgart are just 1/5, or an 83% chance, to lift the trophy at the end of the evening.
That shows the task at hand for Arminia, while looking at the other odds, over 2.5 goals is 8/15 and BTTS is 8/11 - with Stuttgart’s Demirovic is the favourite to open the scoring at 4/1.
Arminia Bielefeld to win @ 6/1
I believe. And so should you. Sometimes we just have to take the leap and back the underdog, and I think we have good reason to get behind the third-tier champions for this cup final.
Stuttgart may have found some form of late, but their ninth-place finish in the Bundesliga is a major disappointment given they finished as runners-up to Leverkusen last season. Their Champions League campaign was poor as they finished 26th in the league phase, and it feels like they just haven’t had the squad depth to compete across the board this term.
The cup run has been the one positive for Stuttgart, but their run has been relatively simple having seen off Bundesliga rivals Augsburg in the last eight and Bundesliga 2 trio Preussen Munster, Kaiserslautern and Jahn Regensburg in the earlier rounds. The semi-final win over RB Leipzig was the big coup, and they’ve had their number this season also beating them well on the final day. But I don’t know - this just feels right for Arminia Bielefeld.
Their run to this final has been sensational. They won’t be bothered by Stuttgart as they have already beaten four Bundesliga clubs to reach this stage, Bayer Leverkusen, Werder Bremen, Freiburg and Union Berlin, while they also downed 2.Bundesliga outfit Hannover in the opening round. The win over holders Leverkusen in the semis was the big upset, as they secured a 2-1 win at home.
Looking at their current form, Kniat's team are currently on a 13-match unbeaten run in all competitions and have only lost once since mid-February. If they do it, they will be the first ever winner of the DFB-Pokal from outside the top two tiers of German football, and I think this is a far closer final than the odds suggest. I’m going to back the underdogs to win it.

Arminia Bielefeld to win 2-1 @ 18/1
A 2-1 win over Leverkusen in the semis. A 2-1 win over Werder in the quarters. A 3-1 win over Freiburg in the last 16. A 2-0 win over Union Berlin in the second round.
There’s been a relative level of consistency for Arminia’s results in this competition and it leads me to believe that both teams will score in 90 minutes in the final. This is Stuttgart’s first final since they lost in 2012/13 to Bayern Munich, and I just think Arminia are worth backing to repeat the scoreline they won by in the last two rounds at a massive price.
