Angers SCO vs Reims Prediction: Hosts to claim the spoils

Angers and Reims meet at Stade Raymond Kopa on Tuesday (20:00) and with many of France’s big hitters already out of the Coupe de France, both will fancy their chances of a rare final appearance season.

Reims are two-time winners of the French Cup, but the most recent of these successes was over six decades ago and they haven’t made it to a final since 1977, while Angers have never lifted the trophy but were beaten finalists as recently as 2017. Team News

Jean-Eudes Aholou will return to the Angers line-up after missing Saturday’s draw at St Etienne through suspension, but in-form attacker Esteban Lepaul is unlikely to feature after being ruled out at the weekend with a groin injury. He joins Sidiki Cherif, Carlens Arcus and Cedric Hountondji on the sidelines.

Jordan Siebatcheu is still a doubt for Reims and is yet to start for the club since arriving from Union Berlin in January, with Amadou Kone, Yaya Fofana, Reda Khadra and Mohamed Daramy also injured.

Angers are slight 6/4 favourites to win this quarter-final tie, with Reims priced at 13/8, or a 38.1% chance, and a draw coming in at 2/1.

With under 2.5 goals at 4/6, a low-scoring affair is expected, while both teams to score is priced at 4/5 and it’s 10/11 for at least one clean sheet.

Angers were beaten by Paris Saint-Germain in the 2017 Coupe de France final, but they are justified favourites to make the final four against a Reims side that have been struggling for goals recently.

The visitors haven’t scored in any of their last four games, one of which was a 1-0 defeat at home to Tuesday’s opponents. They have lost four of their last five fixtures and were taken to penalties by fifth-tier Bourgoin-Jallieu in the last round of the cup.

Les Scoistes may only be five points better off than Reims in Ligue 1, but they have taken some huge steps forward recently and head into this tie with seven wins and just two defeats from their last 11 games.

Angers’ last four home games have featured fewer than three goals and, with Reims struggling to find the net of late, that run is expected to continue with under 2.5 goals landing in three of the visitors’ last four outings.

In-form striker Esteban Lepaul is unlikely to feature due to a groin injury, so the onus may fall on top-scorer Himad Abdelli to make the difference at Stade Raymond Kopa.

The 25-year-old scored a brace in Saturday’s 3-3 draw at St Etienne and can take confidence from that performance by netting again.
