Club World Cup Team Betting Predictions: Al Ahly

Al Ahly, Egypt's sole participant at the 2025 Fifa Club World Cup in the USA, have been drawn in Group A at the tournament with FC Porto, Palmeiras and Inter Miami. The Cairo-based club face a tough fight to finish in the top two and qualify for the knockouts, but having avoided any of the competition's real powerhouses, Jose Riveiro's side will believe anything is possible.

Below are my Al Ahly Fifa Club World Cup 2025 predictions, including an assessment of their squad and player to watch.

Group A: FC Porto, Palmeiras, Al Ahly, Inter Miami

Fixtures: Al Ahly vs Inter Miami (01:00 BST, June 15), Palmeiras vs Al Ahly (17:00 BST, June 19), FC Porto vs Al Ahly (02:00 BST, June 24)

Player to watch: Emam Ashour

As winners of the 2020/21, 2022/23 and 2023/24 Caf Champions League, Al Ahly's spot at the 2025 Fifa Club World Cup was never in doubt. The 44-time Egyptian Premier League champions, who have won the last three league titles and eight of the last 10, are the most successful club in Africa, lifting the Caf Champions League trophy a record 12 times in their history - fellow Egyptians Zamalek and Congolese side TP Mazembe are joint-second with five competition wins apiece.

Al Ahly had to work for this season's Egyptian Premier League title, though, only clinching it on the final day of the season by thrashing Pharco 6-0.

Still, it was an impressive campaign from Riveiro's charges, who also reached the semi-finals of the Caf Champions League, only exiting the tournament to Mamelodi Sundowns on away goals.

Club World Cup 2025 Odds

Since the start of April, Al Ahly have lost just once and will enter the Club World Cup on the back of six successive wins, so confidence should be high.

However, while they are a dominant force in Africa, that means little in the grand scheme of things, with most of the money in football flowing to Europe and the Americas.

As a result, Al Ahly's squad lacks any superstar names, like Inter Miami's does with Lionel Messi, or wonderkids anywhere near the level of Palmeiras' Estevao or FC Porto's Rodrigo Mora.

Player to watch: Emam Ashour

Palestine international Wessam Abou Ali deserves a mention here, having scored 18 goals in 19 league appearances last season and 10 in 16 this term.

However, it's 2024/25 Egyptian Premier League top scorer Emam Ashour, who struck 13 times and registered seven assists in 23 games this term, who is my player to watch.

The 27-year-old's record is all the more impressive when you consider he is a midfielder, and he ended the campaign with four goals in his last four outings.

Football Odds

Prediction: 4th in Group A

Group A is among the most competitive at the summer tournament, with FC Porto (11/8) considered favourites to win it ahead of Palmeiras (15/8) and Inter Miami (3/1).

Al Ahly (10/1), though, are way down in the pricing, and while they will make their opponents work for their wins, it's difficult to see the Egyptians being able to cope with the intensity of the Portuguese or Brazilians, nor the class of Messi & Co. in the American side's ranks.
