A run of four games without a win has left Adelaide United with it all to do in their hunt for a top-six berth in the Australian A-League Men's, and defeat to their next opponents, Western Sydney Wanderers, on Saturday (KO, 08:45), could prove fatal.

Saturday's visitors to Coopers Stadium haven't won any of their last three themselves, though they still sit sixth and six points above the Reds, who have claimed victory once since Christmas.

The sides have played each other twice already this season, with the Wanderers coming out on top on both occasions - once in the Australia Cup (5-1), and once in the A-League Men's (1-0), though both games came in Sydney at CommBank Stadium.

Adelaide United vs Western Sydney Wanderers Betting Tips:

  • Over 4.5 goals @ 9/4

Team News

Ben Halloran, Nestory Irankunda and Nick Ansell all return to the Adelaide United squad ahead of Saturday, while re-signing Yay Dukuly is included after his recent move from Reims.

Josh Cavallo and Hiroshi Ibusuki were both substituted in last week's 2-1 loss at Sydney FC and are injured for this week's clash, though. Halloran and Luka Jovanovic are likely replacements for the pair.

There was a big blow in the Western Sydney Wanderers camp earlier this week with the news that top scorer Marcus Antonsson has been ruled out for the next two months. The Swedish striker is likely to be replaced by Brandon Borrello for this one, with the 28-year-old only recently making his own return from injury.

Goalkeeper Lawrence Thomas is still out as well, while Thomas Beadling is still sidelined as he completes his three-game ban.

Match Odds

Despite their form, Adelaide United are slight favourites at 13/10 to claim victory on Saturday, with the visitors priced up at 6/4 for the win and the draw available at 13/5.

Both teams to score is 4/11 and it's EVS for over 3.5 goals.

Over 4.5 goals @ 9/4

This bet has landed in three of the four meetings between the pair since the start of 2023. Before Wanderers' two wins this season there was a 3-2 victory for the Reds last March and a 4-4 draw at Coopers Stadium the month prior.

United have been particularly porous this term, shipping 33 goals, but they are also in the top-half for goals scored (31).

Over 4.5 goals has also landed in two of the Reds' last three home games, with the other - a 4-0 defeat to Central Coast Mariners - falling just short.

Two of the Wanderers' last three matches have seen at least six goals scored, so 9/4 for 5+ goals on Saturday is certainly tempting.

Over 4.5 goals in Adelaide United vs Western Sydney Wanderers at 9-4

Marcelo to score anytime @ 17/2

The former PSV and Lyon defender has only scored three times in the A-League since moving to Australia in 2022, but the Brazilian has proven more than a handful from set-pieces.

Marcelo averages 1.8 shots per game, a pretty staggering statistic considering he is a centre-back. In fact, his last three games have produced seven shots, with the second of those games - a 3-3 draw with Newcastle Jets - seeing him register four efforts, and score once from them.

United's defence is vulnerable at the moment, and Marcelo could profit from a corner or free-kick.
