Obviously, my focus is on the Football League, and this five-fold focuses on the Championship and League 1.

Coventry City (H) to beat Birmingham City (12:30, Sky Sports Main Event) @ 23/20

Coventry fan here. I can’t wait for this Saturday’s clash against Birmingham, as two of the Championship’s promotion contenders go head-to-head. Coventry have been fantastic at the start of the new season, but that has only translated into two wins and four draws, when their statistical dominance and chance creation suggests that they should be slightly better off in terms of points.

They’ve only lost twice at home in the league under Frank Lampard, while Birmingham have been hit and miss so far as they adjust the level. They didn’t manage a shot on target as they lost 1-0 at Stoke in their last away game, while it took a 94th-minute Lyndon Dykes header to secure a home win over Swansea City last time out. I think Blues are a good team and should finish in the top six, but I just believe Cov will be too strong on home soil.

Football Odds

QPR (A) to beat Sheffield Wednesday (15:00) @ 6/4

Sheffield Wednesday got an astonishing win away at Portsmouth last time out, as Barry Bannan scored a free-kick to open the scoring before George Brown took advantage of a Pompey injury to secure the points. It’s a miracle that they’ve got a win, but the feeling of their away performance has been very different to their home games - where fans are staying away or protesting.

They’ve lost every game at home in the league so far, and that shouldn’t change as they welcome QPR to Hillsborough. Richard Kone has quickly established himself as one of the best strikers in the league with three goals to his name already, and I think QPR should be able to find their fourth win on the bounce.

Middlesbrough (A) to beat Southampton (15:00) @ 2/1

Southampton have been really poor so far this season, and had a midweek trip to Liverpool to deal while league leaders Middlesbrough rested at home. Although they face a tough away game, I think it makes sense to go with the form book here at a big price.

Boro have looked like one of the best teams in the league so far, as Rob Edwards gets the very best out of his XI. Five wins and a draw so far see them top the charts at the time of writing, while Saints sit 19th having only won once this term.

Huddersfield Town (A) to beat Exeter City (15:00) @ 11/10

Down to League 1 now and Huddersfield Town are celebrating, having completed the purchase of the Accu Stadium on Thursday. Lee Grant is also doing a sterling job with his team, as they sit fifth in the league and they gave Manchester City a decent game despite defeat in midweek.

Town disappointingly drew 0-0 with basement boys Burton Albion in their last league outing, but I still fancy them to get back to winning ways as they travel to face Exeter. The Grecians have lost six of nine games this season, including their last three, and they could be in for a relegation battle this term. Away win.

Bradford City (H) to beat Blackpool @ 1/1

The Chickens are pecking everybody right now. Bradford City currently sit top of League 1 having beaten Huddersfield and Cardiff in back-to-back games. That surely proves that they are promotion candidates this term, with Graham Alexander donig a sterling job in charge of the club that only came up from League 2 last season.

Blackpool earned a late win over Barnsley in their last fixture, but it’s been a tough season so far, and they sit in the relegation zone after eight matches. Bradford should be able to find another three points at Valley Parade.
