Newcastle United vs Bradford City - BTTS @ 5/4

The Carabao Cup pits together an inconsistent Newcastle United side and the surprise League 1 leaders, Bradford City, in round three. The odds for Bradford to qualify here are massive (9/1) and I am tempted by that given their superb form in the third tier, while they have also beaten two Championship teams away from home in the form of Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers to reach this stage.

Graham Alexander has got his team playing some wonderful stuff right now and although I was tempted to back them to win to drastically increase our odds, I’m going to play things safe and instead back BTTS. Bradford have seen both teams score in nine of their last 10 fixtures, while with Newcastle’s Premier League quality, they should have no trouble breaking down this Bantams back line.

Morecambe vs Halifax Town - Over 2.5 goals @ 4/5

What a delight it is that Morecambe are playing football matches this season in the National League. For so long over the summer it looked as though they would go the same way as Bury, but it’s fantastic that their off-the-pitch issues have been resolved.

On the pitch, new manager Ashvir Singh Johal has turned them into quite an entertaining outfit to say the least. His attacking style of play is slowly getting results after a difficult start and their last two games have ended 4-4 and 4-3 to the Shrimps. Halifax beat Gateshead 2-1 last time out and prior to that drew 2-2 with Eastleigh, so goals should be on the cards.

Roma (A) to beat Nice @ 13/10

To the Europa League now where Roma will look to continue their strong momentum having beaten fierce rivals Lazio over the weekend. Gian Piero Gasperini has made his side pretty hard to beat, with every Serie A result ending 1-0, with three victories and one defeat by that scoreline so far.

Nice have had a bit of a difficult start to the new campaign and lost 4-0 on aggregate to Benfica in the Champions League play-off. Le Havre beat them 3-1 and Brest hammered them 4-1 last time out, and although their home form is better than their away form, I think Roma will be too strong in this Europa League opener.

Real Betis (H) to beat Nottingham Forest @ 6/5

Ange Postecoglou picked up his first point in charge of his new club with a 1-1 draw at Burnley, but it’s not been a perfect start as he side were beaten 3-2 by Swansea City in the Carabao Cup and hammered 3-0 by Arsenal in the last 11 days.

A tough trip to face Real Betis awaits for Forest, and even though Postecoglou won this competition with Tottenham Hotspur last term, I think this is a big ask for the opener. Betis have only lost one of their opening six La Liga matches, and hammered Real Sociedad 3-1 in their last fixture. They did well to reach the Conference League final last season, and I think they will fancy their chances in the Europa League this term.

Atletico Madrid (H) to beat Rayo Vallecano @ 1/2

A La Liga clash to round us off and Atletico Madrid have had a really slow start to the 2025/26 campaign. They’ve only won one of their opening five in Spain's top flight, drawing three, including their last fixture away at Mallorca in which Alexander Sorloth was sent off.

They are still incredibly competitive as they showed in the 3-2 defeat at Anfield in the Champions League as Virgil van Dijk scored a late, late winner for the hosts. They should get back to winning ways as they host Rayo Vallecano - a team that are winless in their last four league games, although one of those was a credible 1-1 draw against the champions Barcelona. Home win.
