Rangers (A) to beat Brann @ 13/5

How highly do I rate Danny Rohl? Well, if you’ve tuned into any of the recent Sportsman Untitled episodes you will have heard us wax lyrical about the former Sheffield Wednesday manager. Now, Rangers have finally got their man and his first game in charge will be this Europa League test, away at Brann. 

Rangers have lost two from two in Europe so far under Russell Martin, but this new era provides new opportunities. Rohl will link back up with Djeidi Gassama, and should get the best out of him, while even though he was a slow starter at Wednesday, I think he could have an instant impact north of the border. Brann are currently third in Norway and beat Utrecht 1-0 in their last Europa League outing, so this will be a big ask, but the odds reflect that. 

Believe in Rohl.

Aston Villa (A) to beat Go Ahead Eagles @ 4/9

Should be fairly simple for an Aston Villa side that have turned a corner under Unai Emery. They’ve won both Europa League games so far, downing Feyenoord and Bologna without conceding, while they’ve now won five in a row in all competitions. 

Go Ahead Eagles sit 12th in the Eredivisie having won just two league matches all season, and although they’ve picked up another win in this league phase, Villa should be far too strong for them.

Lille (H) to beat PAOK @ 4/7 

Lille are one of seven teams that have won two from two in the Europa League this season, and they should have no trouble keeping up that perfect record. The win away at Roma was impressive while Lille are now unbeaten in their last five, including drawing 1-1 with European champions PSG. 

PAOK have won five from seven in Greece but they’ve only picked up one point in two Europa League games so far. Home win. 

Rayo Vallecano (A) to beat BK Hacken @ 8/11

Down to the Conference League now and Rayo Vallecano are in fine fettle, having won their last three games to nil. They beat KF Shkendija 2-0 in their opening game of this competition and should be one of the stronger teams at this level. 

BK Hacken over in Sweden have really struggled this term and are currently ninth, having picked up just 33 points from their 27 fixtures. They drew 0-0 with Shelbourne in their Conference League opener and should find this home test too tough.

Exeter City vs Plymouth Argyle - Draw @ 12/5 

A Devon derby at the bottom of League 1 rounds off our acca, and I can’t separate these two strugglers. Tom Cleverley’s Plymouth were expected to contest for promotion this term but it has been turgid stuff, as they sit 21st with 13 points from 12 games. 

Rivals Exeter have not fared any better, with the same return from 13 games, making this a potential relegation six-pointer so early in the season. I think nerves could spoil this feisty encounter and a draw is the most likely outcome.
