The semi-finals of the Coppa Italia are within touching distance for AC Milan and Atalanta, who come face-to-face on Wednesday night (20:00).

Both sides are firmly in the battle for European spots, with nine points separating third-placed Milan and La Dea in sixth.

The two go into this fixture on the back of positive results as Stefano Pioli’s men cruised to a 3-0 victory at relegation-threatened Empoli, whilst Gian Piero Gasperini oversaw a battling effort from his team to ensure a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Roma.

Team News

Stefano Pioli’s squad has been further stretched to its limits with Samu Chukwueze and Ismael Bennacer joining up with Nigeria and Algeria respectively for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The duo join the eight injured players missing the cup clash, with Pierre Kalulu, Mattia Caldara, Tommasso Pobega, Fikayo Tomori, Rade Krunic, Alessandro Florenzi, Malick Thiaw and Noah Okafor all absent, whilst Marco Pellegrino will face a late fitness test as he recovers from an ankle sprain.

Atalanta defender Sead Kolasinac went off with muscle problems in their draw with Roma so he is unlikely to feature. Long-term absentees Hans Hateboer, El Bilal Toure and Rafael Toloi are also unavailable through injury, whilst top scorer Ademola Lookman has been named in the Nigeria AFCON squad.

Match Odds

The Rossoneri are favourites for this cup tie at 21/20, whilst an Atalanta victory can be backed at 11/5.

A draw in 90 minutes gives odds of 23/10, and Milan’s veteran striker Olivier Giroud is the favourite to score at any time at 9/5.

Although both sides go into this game in similar form, Milan should feel confident that they can progress to the semi-finals, having won both of the last two meetings at the San Siro.

The Rossoneri last lost at home in November to Juventus and then to Udinese in back-to-back games, and they remain Milan's only domestic defeats at the San Siro since April.

However, injuries to key defenders have opened cracks at the back, with three of the last five meetings at the San Siro seeing both teams find the net.

That should give hope of grabbing a goal or two to Atalanta, especially given they claimed a 3-2 win over Milan in Bergamo in early December as well as netting in all but two away games this season.

Luka Jovic to score anytime @ 12/5

Only bitter rivals Inter Milan have scored more than AC Milan’s 35 goals in Serie A this season, with nine first-team players finding the back of the net on more than one occasion.

One player in a purple patch of form is Serbian striker Luka Jovic, who has registered five goals and one assist in his last six games, including a brace against Cagliari in the last round.

Whilst not guaranteed to start thanks to the goalscoring exploits of Giroud, Jovic should expect to enter the field at some point and could see his superb streak extended with another goal on Wednesday.
